Shock and anger as Brazilian influencer Luana Andrade, 29, dies a day after liposuction surgery on knee
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Influencer Luana Andrade from Brazil died on Tuesday, just one day after having a knee liposuction surgery at a hospital in Sao Paulo's southeast.
According to a statement from Sao Luiz Hospital, Andrade, 29, had the surgery performed by a private physician and anesthetist that her family hired.

Luana Andrade suffered cardiac arrest
About two and a half hours after the procedure, the model experienced cardiac arrest.

The hospital said, "The surgery was interrupted and the patient underwent tests that revealed massive thrombosis."
The hospital added, "She was transferred to the ICU where she underwent medication and hemodynamic treatment."
She was declared dead on Tuesday at around 5:30 am, with pulmonary embolism as reason for the death. As of Wednesday morning, neither the operating physician nor the anesthesiologist — whose identities have been kept secret -- has made a statement.

Her boyfriend, Joao Hadad, wrote on Instagram, "I am torn apart and living my biggest nightmare. A part of me left."
He added, "We built a beautiful story and lived our dreams intensely".
He said, "In addition to being a girlfriend, you are and will always be a partner beyond life, my love. … You are my light, princess. I ask that you continue to watch over me and all of us from above. I will always love you, from now until eternity!"
Neymar expresses sadness over Andrade's untimely death
Star soccer player Neymar from Brazil expressed his sadness over Andrade's untimely death, which came one day after robbers held his girlfriend's parents hostage while they broke into her home and took his one-month-old daughter.
He wrote in Portuguese, "Sad day with two very bad news. First it was the attack that bru's (Bruna Bincardi's) parents suffered, but thank God everyone is fine!"
He added, "Secondly, the death of a friend. My condolences to the whole family, may God receive Luana with open arms."
Gabriel Medina criticizes impossible beauty standards
Gabriel Medina, a surfer from Brazil, criticized the surgery that his friend Andrade had to undergo, blaming social media and the media for continuously featuring images of women who are trying to achieve physical perfection.
He wrote, "Today I lost a friend due to "simple" aesthetic procedures. The world is surreal, people... especially you women."
He added, "This standard of "perfect" bodies that are impossible to achieve displayed on Instagram and in the media needs to end urgently. "

Luana Andrade was from Sao Paulo
Andrade grew up in Sao Paulo, but she moved to the neighboring state of Espirito Santo four months ago, where she was living with Hadad. Since April, she had been employed as a stage assistant for the Sunday morning SBT network program 'Domingo Legal', as reported by DailyMail.
