The process of navigating the job market is often stressful for most individuals. It begins with the crucial step of applying for job opportunities, where individuals meticulously tailor their resumes and cover letters to stand out among a sea of applicants. Even with a proper application, the chances of securing an interview remain uncertain and rely heavily on luck. Individuals often confront a range of emotions at the time, from anticipation and excitement to anxiety and self-consciousness. In today's highly competitive job market, it becomes essential to recognize that such feelings are normal and are experienced by many job seekers. In response, TikToker @julia.haber has compiled a series of typical interview mistakes along with helpful tips and tricks.

The video starts with Haber pointing out how people fail at giving concise introductions of themselves during job interviews, citing the same as the primary reason that eliminates them from the selection process. "Most people babble for a good five minutes, share no relevant information about the role, and don't tell a story," she says. In job interviews, it's common for individuals to let their anxiety get the best of them and often end up sharing irrelevant information that holds no value for the role they are applying for. Haber proposes four critical solutions for job seekers to use whenever they are asked to introduce themselves.

She suggests that interviewees begin the interview with a "very unique and personal anecdote." This means something that makes the interviewer remember you even after the interview. It helps if the anecdote is funny, but it must bring out a specific aspect of your life that makes you stand out amongst all the other candidates. Haber's example showcased in the video of how one becomes a kind of third parent by having five siblings is very apt. Secondly, she insists that one should take the keywords from the job description and connect them to roles that one has done before so that the employer is able to recognize the relevance of your application.

This tip is subjective and depends on an individual's work history and the job they are applying for. She then proceeds to build off the first point by insisting that the interviewee provide another personal anecdote that gives the interviewer an idea about their personality. By following these three steps alone, an employer will immediately recognize who you are and what you are good at. Finally, her last tip is to close out by discussing what one expects from the job in tandem with the job description.
