Adding another year to her life, Louise Jean Signore of New York City, who has lived through two world wars, the Vietnam War, and a lot more, turned 107 on July 31. The popular woman who has tons of life experience celebrated her long life with more than 100 family and friends, who gathered in New York City. It was celebrated at the JASA Bartow Community Center in Co-op City.

Even at this age, she lives alone and is independent. She is still active and doesn't use a walking cane or wheelchair. She even goes shopping on her own, her friends told WCBS-TV. She maintains an active lifestyle and that could be one of the key reasons for her healthy and long life. However, if you ask her, she might have something else to say. She attributes her long life to Italian food and never being married. However, there is more to that. She takes care of herself and still enjoys dancing. An active lifestyle and a great attitude have helped her too.

"If they have exercise, I do the exercise. If they have dancing, I dance. I still do a little dancing. After my lunch, I will play bingo, so I had a full day," Signore told CNN affiliate WCBS. "I think the secret of 107: I never got married. I think that's the secret. My sister says, 'I wish I never got married.'" She was born in Manhattan and moved to the Bronx in 1926 and has lived there ever since. She has had a remarkable life full of travels and fun. "I was working for the (New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority), and in 1955, I took three months off and I went to Europe," she said, according to ABC7. Despite her age, the elderly woman makes time for dancing and an occasional glass of red wine. Her health has been so remarkable that she's never had a major illness that needed major surgery. The only accident she's had is a broken bone. Once.

Now that she's 107, she acknowledges that she never imagined she would live such a long, healthy life. She attributes longevity to her upbeat and adventurous spirit. When she was asked what her day looks like, she said, "Food and exercise and you have to have a system if you go to sleep at 11, don't go to at 9 o'clock, 2 o'clock, that's not good," she said. She loves Italian food, and adds, "Italian food is very good for you. I was brought up with very good food. No soda, no cake." She is not the only one in her family to live beyond 100. She has four siblings, three of whom are still alive. Her "baby" sister turned 102 years old in March.

In the United States, Alelia Murphy, 114, is the oldest living woman currently. She lives in Harlem in New York, where Signore was born. In the UK, the oldest living woman, Grace James attributes a "tot of whisky" to her long life. The 112-year-old said, "I started having a nightly tot of it when I turned 50 so I've been having it every night for the last 60 years and I certainly have no intention of stopping now. My doctor said 'Keep up with the whiskey Grace, it's good for your heart'".
