Every moment in life is an opportunity to learn something new. Before she became a mother, Christy Keane had never met a deaf person in her life. Recently, she and her 2-month-old daughter, Charly, won millions of hearts on the internet with their viral video of sharing a miraculous moment, reposted by GoodHousekeeping.com on Facebook. Keane and her husband, Daniel, who works in the military, decided to film the first time their baby daughter hears the sound of her mother’s voice when she said, “I love you.” The family received hearing aids from donors that would help amplify the sounds for the baby girl, who was declared deaf at birth.

Within days, the adorable clip of the baby reacting to her mother’s loving words amassed 10 million views and about 200,000 shares. In the clip, Charly is wearing hearing aids, and as soon as her mother says, “Hello!”, her expression shifts. Her eyes swell up, and she gets emotional. A few moments later, Keane chimed in with, “I love you,” which made the baby hold back tears. Although she was too young to understand what the phrase meant, Charly was very well able to comprehend her mother’s loving expression.

"I was not expecting such a large response to the post,” said the mother of two during a phone conversation with the outlet. Keane revealed that she had initially posted the clip privately on her page but was later asked to make it public by relatives so they could share it with their friends. “I thought, 'Oh, what's the harm? I'll make it public. And then, I think I woke up the next day with a thousand shares and by Monday it had hit a million,” Keane recalled. "CHARLY HEARS FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HEARS ME SAY I LOVE YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!," the caption read.

Later, Keane divulged that her daughter’s face was unlike anything she had ever seen before. “I'm her mother, and I know the look in her eyes when she's sad, upset, or hurting, and that connection, and that moment when our eyes met and she heard my voice for the first time, that was true emotion from her,” she noted. Even the baby’s dad, Daniel, was choked up when he saw her face. The couple from Virginia had spent two months of hardship struggling with their daughter’s disability. After getting the hearing aids, their “pain” was suddenly wiped away. During her pregnancy, the doctors were unable to deduce whether the baby was deaf. Moreover, after birth, they dismissed her hearing loss as fluid blockage. Charly was diagnosed with bilateral profound congenital hearing loss.

The precious minute goes on to showcase the unspoken language of love and emotions. Within a few months, the baby demonstrated significant growth in communication. “Charly is already making huge strides in her language development,” the mother admitted at the time. They had even helped her sign the word “milk”, practicing before breastfeeds and nighttime bottles. However, her verbal speech was still underway and had gotten so far as to mimic noises. The parents were hopeful for her cochlear implants a few years later, which would replace the damaged parts in her ear.
