Boy risks his life to save his sister from dog attack: “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me”

Many of us grew up as a single child but some have had the privilege of growing up with a sibling. As a parent, you must've experienced having to deal with sibling rivalry amongst your kids too. At one moment they might be pulling each other's hair over a silly fight while you try to separate them but at the very next moment, you might find them laughing over something while they enjoy ice cream on a hot summer day. The bond between siblings is unlike anything else.

Bridger Walker, a 6-year-old boy, didn't think twice before standing in between a dog charging towards his little sister, to save her life, reported The Mirror. His aunt Nicole "Nikki" Walker shared his brave story on Instagram with photos of him and his sister.

Bridger, from Wyoming, USA, was rushed to a hospital but ended up with 90 stitches after the horrifying ordeal. Talking about the incident he said, "If someone had to die, I thought it should be me," reported The New York Post. At such a tender age, he knew that his sister's life was more important than his own.

The vicious pooch ended up severely hurting Bridger's face as he bit across his face and head several times. But the heroic brother endured the pain and managed to grab his sister's hand and run to safety.

Nichole, who's proud of her nephew shared his story because she thought that the world should know about Bridger.

She said, "On July 9, my six-year-old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog."

“After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe. He later said, ‘If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.’" She also added that he was doing much better after the incident under the care of the plastic surgeons and was recovering at home.

She said, “His wounds are looking so much better! He’s in great spirits, and his awesome personality is intact." Describing the spirited boy's attempts to smile she said, “He can’t smile too widely yet but he was grinning as I read some of your comments to him."

Bridger's story was shared by many well-wishers who were astounded by his courage and offered donations. But his parents being the warm-hearted people they are requested them to be directed to veterans' charities Mission 22 or Wounded Warrior Project. They said it would be in Bridger's honor, reported The Mirror.

While most people were concerned about the boy's recovery some were interested to know more about the dog that attacked the two kids. Giving an update on the issue, the aunt said, "The dog’s owners are really great people who have been nothing but kind to Bridger and his family. We feel no resentment toward them at all, and - if anything - there’s only been an increase of love between our families as a result of this incident."

Since Bridger is a fan of the Marvel superheroes, his aunt took the opportunity to share the new hero's story by tagging the cast from the movies and receive “some words of encouragement from his favorite heroes."

"We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks," she said, tagging Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jnr, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Evans. And to Bridger's delight, his superheroes responded!

Mark Ruffalo who played the Hulk replied to the boy's story and said, "People who put the well beings of others in front of themselves are the most heroic and thoughtful people I know. I truly respect and admire your courage and your heart."

Appreciating the little one's courage and explaining the true meaning of being a hero, he continued, "Real courage isn’t dominating people or fighting against people or walking around like a tough guy. Real courage is knowing what is right to do and doing it even when it might end up hurting you somehow."
