Cindy Crawford spills beans on marriage to Richard Gere 30 years after their divorce in 'The Supermodels'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cindy Crawford has spilled a few key details about dating and then marrying A-list actor Richard Gere, 30 years after their divorce.

In the new Apple TV+ series 'The Supermodels', which also features interviews with model stars Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington, the 57-year-old fashion icon reflected on how she changed herself and her interests to match Gere's when she started dating the leading man of 'Pretty Woman' in 1988, as reported by Daily Mail.

Cindy Crawford tried to 'mold' herself to sync with Richard Gere

She spoke about how she tried to "mold" herself to better sync with Gere in the documentary series, recalling how she took on some of his Buddhist interests.

She explained, "You're willing to kind of mold yourself around whoever you are in love with." She added, “He was older, so I just was like in a different circle and not doing some of those same fashiony things anymore.”

Crawford added, "In the early stages of a relationship, as a young woman, you're like: 'You like baseball? I like baseball.'"

'"You’re really into Tibetan Buddhism? I might be into that. I’ll try that," said Crawford, referring to Gere's well-known interest and devotion to Buddhism in her comments.

She was 17 years younger than Gere, who is now 74, and the two secretly wed in 1991 after dating for two years.

Prior to her relationship with Gere, Crawford made headlines in the fashion world with her catalog shoots, beginning when photographer Roger Legel first approached her at age 16 in her hometown of DeKalb, Illinois.

This eventually led to the start of her booming career as a cover model at age 24.

However, she had to put her career on hold due to her relationship with Gere, as reported by Independent.

However, the celebrated fashion model's fondness for a show-stopping moment revealed itself on occasion.

Her 1991 red carpet Academy Awards appearance with the 38-year-old A-lister will go down in history as the moment when high fashion and Hollywood collided to create a fab spectacle. Crawford wore a red Versace original with a plunging V-cut neckline for the event.

She remarked, "If I'm going to go to the Oscars, I better be a freaking supermodel, When I showed up in that red dress, I think it was a little like: 'Wow, fashion is back at the Oscars.'"

Crawford’s recalls that during her time with Gere, her ability to “change in a relationship” as she matured was stifled.

She said,  "I just think your twenties for women is such a time where you're starting to come into your own and feel your own power and connect to your inner strength."

Crawford went on, "And it's hard to change in a relationship because what one person might have signed up for and then all of a sudden you're not that anymore."

Crawford added, "I think I was more willing at 22 to be like: 'Okay, I'll follow' and then you start going: 'Well, I don't want to just follow. I want to lead sometimes and I want to walk side by side sometimes."

Eventually, the designers' muse did discover her perfect match. After getting married to businessman Rande Gerber, she had two kids with him: Kaia, 22, and Presley, 24.

Meanwhile, Gere divorced Carey Lowell in 2013 after 11 years together, before marrying Alejandra Silva in 2018. The actor had son Homer, in 2000, with Lowell.

He welcomed son Alexander with third wife Silva and later the pair had another son, whose name they've not shared publicly, in 2020.
