Couple stunned to find out they're cousins years after marriage: “Grandmas seemed to be a lot alike”
A married couple with three kids took a DNA test to find out more about their family history and learned that they were cousins. The news has received mixed feedback since it was announced by Colorado realtor Celina Quinones, as per PEOPLE.
Following just a few months of dating, Celina wed Joseph Quinones in July 2006. Even though their families had already met, nobody realized they were related. After Celina shared the news on social media, she received a lot of flak from her followers. "There's a lot of negative comments, it's horrible. People keep asking, 'Why would you do that? Why would you post this?'” Celina shared with the outlet expressing her dismay about the comments. "But I take everything with a grain of salt. I'm a realtor, so I'm used to getting badgered all the time, so I'm like 'Ah, it's nothing'," she added, as she shared how it barely affects her.

After ten years into their marriage, Celina started putting together a family tree and did a DNA test through MyHeritage. This is when they found the revelation. "We ended up having our wedding, and even then, our grandmas seemed to be a lot alike, and they got along, but still, nothing clicked," she recalled. Her husband Joseph added, "We didn't think about it. I never saw her at family reunions, funerals, or weddings."

Celina acknowledged that after learning the findings, she started to question whether she and Joseph should continue to be together. "I ordered the DNA tests. They came in, and sure enough, we did our swabs, put them in the mail, and off they went. Then we got the results back, and I searched the family tree DNA — another part of the search — and saw him pop up there. And I go, 'Oh no,'" as she shared her concerns about living together despite the blood relation.
"Joseph was like, 'Babe, don't worry about it. It's not a big deal. Just brush it off.' I was like, 'Should we get a divorce? Are we even supposed to be together?'" Celina shares, but looking at the sweet little family they have made her decision. "I started rethinking, and then after a while, I was like, 'Nope, we're just staying together.' There's nothing we can do about it. I'm not going to let some blood come between us." She disclosed her internal conflicts and how she overcame them. The couple shares three kids.
Celina revealed, "I was in shock. I was a little depressed over it, to be honest. But this was after we already had three kids, and all of them were healthy." The couple has two sons, aged 15 and 13, and an adorable 10-year-old daughter. "They have 10 fingers, 10 toes, but it was just a shock," shared the mum recalling when the news was first broken to her and how shocked and moved she was.
She claimed that based on the results of the DNA testing, they are second to seventh cousins, making them the closest relatives that could share their great-grandparents.
