Tesla cars are fitted with a variety of sensors, including cameras, radar, and ultrasonic detectors, that display details about nearby objects, like pedestrians, on its central touchscreen. The feature is meant to provide additional safety, especially at night. However, for one group of people, the images on the car screen during a night drive had them fearing for their lives.

When a man chose to make a late-night detour through a cemetery with a friend and cousin, unsettling figures popped up nearby. The touchscreen showed pedestrians walking beside the car as they passed the gravestones. With each passing minute, more showed up. The driver recorded the bizarre event and posted the video on TikTok. Given that Tesla is known for embedding hidden surprises, or 'Easter eggs', in their car systems, netizens online wondered if this was just that. However, the driver stressed, "I confirm this is not an Easter egg Elon added as I've tried this many times. It's not just picking up the gravestones as even if it was, they would show as stationary on the screen." So far, there has been no official explanation for the ghostly figures.

Netizens understandably had a lot to say about the eerie video. A TikTok user commented, “This is real! The technology on electric cars is very clear for any movements. It can’t pick up gravestones or balloons as they don’t walk.” Another chimed, “There's been [sic] recently buried people around. This also raises the question about how safe those technologies are that are capable of scanning bodies.” Meanwhile, one highlighted, “This tripped me out around the end. They were running and grubbing to the car. Looked like they wanted to get in.”

As the comments poured in, another noted, “Seemed like they were drawn to the car at a much faster rate as your reactions got more intense. Drawn to fear?” A similar incident also occurred with TikToker @iam3dgar, who goes by Edgar Osornia on Instagram. Osornia posted a video of him driving through California's West Side Cemetery District. The dashboard screen showed several figures moving in various directions. However, as the camera panned up, as the car hurried through the graveyard, there was nobody there, Newsweek reported.

On Reddit, a person opined, "I think it’s because it detects there are some objects which can be considered to have the same height as a little kid. (the flowers)." In agreement, another added, "Probably badly registering the flowers. It knows something is there, but it’s not programmed to understand moving bouquets of flowers." Similarly, one stressed, "My guess is something is pointed on the lower side and is bouncing off giving a false positive, probably one of those grave markers with the fresher flowers."
