Groom says one word at the wedding and his bride wants divorce just 3 minutes later

About 50% of marriages end in divorce in the United States, per World Population Review. While this number is only expected to rise, a newlywed couple took getting a divorce to new avenues. In 2019, a lover’s quarrel between a couple in Kuwait found no end and led to the bride filing for divorce within three minutes of tying the knot, as reported by the Metro UK. The bizarre incident etched itself as the shortest marriage and probably the fastest divorce ever in marital history. However, the burning question remains, what went down that urged the bride to take the bold step?

Apparently, the bride could not bear the insult from her new husband after she tripped and fell soon after their wedding vows. The couple had patiently waited for the formal proceedings to conclude before they began their "Just Married" life, but the joy was cut short after the husband called her “stupid” for simply tripping. The unnamed bride fell down as they made their way out of the courthouse in the Middle Eastern nation. Instead of helping her get back on her feet, the husband ridiculed her in front of the guests.

The bride did get back up but turned around to the court judge and demanded the marriage be annulled immediately. The step was taken in a fit of pure rage, although she was confident that such criticism would do her more harm than good in the future. The bride was quick to notice that it was only the beginning. As a result, the judge complied with her demands, and the marriage was annulled within three minutes of marriage– dubbed the shortest marriage in Kuwait’s history, per Q8 News. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are 86 divorces every hour, while about 230 marriages are filed an hour.

Moreover, 70% of all divorces are filed by women. The report stated that women are more inclined to choose a single life, with or without children, regardless of economic burden. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated in a 2023 report of America’s Families and Living Arrangements that more and more people prefer not to get married. 56% of young adults aged between 18 and 24 live with their parents while 16% of adults between 25 and 34 years of age also live in their childhood home. The primary reasons range from financial concerns, career choices, and caring for aging parents. Divorce expert James Brien explained why people are choosing divorce over staying in a long marriage.

"There are many factors behind why couples divorce, and it's often not one single action that spells the end of a marriage. But there is a common theme I see in most couples looking to end their legal partnership - a lack of communication," Brien said, per Easy Online Divorce. Even though most couples cite infidelity as the central issue of separation, the expert clarified that the relationship is typically ruined long before the acts of cheating are done. Meanwhile, another divorce trend is on the rise called gray divorce. This term is used to indicate couples over the age of 50 ending their marriages and comes with complex economic and emotional challenges, the American Psychological Association reported.
