Heavy metal singer pauses concert to console a little girl sobbing in the front row: 'She knows...'

Many people associate heavy metal music with bad taste. The genre peaked in popularity during the 1980s, with artists like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin making waves among fans. While that heavy metal trend has dissolved, one band has withstood the test of time: "Disturbed." The metal band became a topic of discussion for fans and beyond after a wholesome moment unraveled during their concert in West Palm Beach, Florida. Lead vocalist David Draiman noticed a young fan in the front row and was instantly moved when he saw her singing in the crowd. The instance was captured and shared on Disturbed's official TikTok page, @disturbed, amassing 20.6 million views and 1.8 million likes.

Shedding the tough skin to show the tenderness that exists behind, Draiman stepped down from the stage mid-performance and consoled a little girl who was sobbing. “I’m very proud of you. You’re welcome!” the lead singer said, leaning on the fence to talk to her. The crowd cheered for the star as the heartfelt exchange occurred. “You okay? What’s your name, darling? Everyone, say hello to Sophia,” Dariman encouraged his fans. Overwhelmed by the attention, the girl, who was attending the concert with her parents, started crying. Even then, the singer did not give up as he paused the concert to get her cheered up.

“It’s okay, baby, it’s okay. I didn’t mean to scare you. You okay? You promise?” Draiman confirmed. After a brief introduction, the singer felt it was appropriate for him to share the integral purpose of the band’s music and how it acknowledged, accepted, and loved everyone, regardless of their race, background, or social status. He happily noted the many families present amongst the crowd. Addressing the diversity of the fans, Draiman said, “See, I love, absolutely love that disturbed concerts have become a family affair. I love it.”

“This little girl has been singing her heart out the entire show. She knows so many of the songs,” the musician shared. Draiman was particularly surprised when he saw the child singing their 2015 hit, The Sound of Silence, characterized by its dark lyrics. Mentioning that even his own son was up in the backstage, he said their band concerts “should” be a family affair. While some may disagree due to the context of their songs and the dark perspectives on life and reality, Draiman steered attention to the fact that the real world has worse things going on in it, which the children are witnessing every day.

“We live in a world where there are so many more vile and ugly things in it than profanity,” Draiman said, before acknowledging the vast and diverse audience tuning in for their concerts. Welcoming people from all races, walks of life, political opinions, and identities, he declared, “We don’t care. Everyone here, everyone who comes to a Disturbed concert, is welcome and accepted and loved.” Then, Draiman explained the purpose of the music they made and their concerts as a haven for people who struggle and face hardships in the world. “You come here to take your burdens and to set them down!”

Hailing from Chicago, the metal band formed in 1994 with four members: guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren, vocalist Draiman, and bassist John Moyer. With millions of fans, Disturbed has consistently surprised them with amazing melodies.
