Jim Carrey sold LA home to enjoy a quiet life after terrifying experience of Hawaii missile alert
'It was more a wave of calm coming over me and a sense of 'Oh, that's strange.’' the 61-year-old actor said

MAUI, HAWAII: Jim Carrey is a man of many talents, who has spread his magic on screen for several years. But last year, he decided to take a back seat and relax.
In April 2022, the comedian said, as per Variety, “Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious.”
“It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break,” he shared.
‘The Mask’ star added, “I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
Jim Carrey had a ‘real psychic warning’
Carrey’s retirement announcement came only a few years after he had a terrifying experience.
He described it as a "real psychic warning” on his now-deleted Twitter account.
The ‘Liar Liar’ actor was in Hawaii in 2018 when the incident happened. He got a shocking call from his assistant, Linda, who reportedly told him, “There are missiles coming, and they're going to land in 10 minutes. This is real.”
In 2020, Carrey revealed more about the experience as well as the story behind the cover of his book, titled — 'Memoirs and Misinformation'.
He said, “So the book's cover is an actual shot of my face after being told that I have 10 minutes to live.”
“It was more a wave of calm coming over me and a sense of 'Oh, that's strange. Huh, what a funny way for this all to end.' And that's the feeling I got,” he said.
Carrey also went on to disclose, “I tried to get off the island on the phone to my daughter and I couldn't get through. And finally, I just said, 'You know what? I've had a wonderful life.'"
“And I decided to sit there and watch the ocean and go through all the ways in my head that I could be grateful for what I had. And I started this list of gratitudes that could have gone on forever,” he added.
However, eventually, it was found out that the missile news was not true.
Jim Carrey wants others to enjoy his $29 million LA house
Following his retirement, Carrey also decided to sell his Los Angeles mansion and put it on the market for almost $29 million earlier this year.
Via a statement, the ‘Ace Ventura’ star said, as per Fox Business, “For three decades it’s been a sanctuary for me, but I don’t spend a lot of time there now, and I want someone else to enjoy it like I have.”
It has been said that he purchased the luxurious place, which includes five bedrooms and nine bathrooms, for $3.8 million in 1994.
He called it a “place of enchantment and inspiration” for more than “30 very creative and prosperous years.”
Carrey reportedly added, “Every night the owls sang me lullabies and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine.”
