LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Federline is reportedly planning to "ask Britney Spears for an increase in child support" only days before his son Sean Preston's 18th birthday.

As her need to pay child support for their eldest child expires on Thursday when he reaches the age of majority, a source told TMZ that the father-of-six, 45, believes he "never bargained on having the kids full-time when they hashed out the terms of support."

According to the source, the former backup dancer is "thinking of going to court" to get support changes. Spears' monthly child support payment is set to drop from $40,000 to $20,000 after Sean Preston's birthday this week.

However, a source close to Spears said, "That is not accurate. There is no basis for it, and it would be ridiculous. Kevin has been paid exorbitant monies and one would think if he needed more money he would, at last, obtain a job."

Jayden James, the former couple's 17-year-old son, is also the former married couple's son. According to TMZ, "if Kevin asks for an increase," the 41-year-old singer's court-ordered child support "could balloon if he proves he needs more money for 100% of Jayden's care."

Jayden's support 'will stay intact until around June 2025'

The site reported that Jayden's support  "will stay intact until around June 2025, when he graduates high school."

According to Daily Mail, Spears is 'relieved' that she will no longer have to pay tens of thousands of dollars in child support each month.

"Britney is relieved that Sean is turning 18 on September 14 because she is tired of paying Kevin the insane amount of money he is getting," a source close to the singer told the outlet.

Kevin relocated his entire family, including Sean, Jayden, and his other four children, to Hawaii, where his current wife, Victoria Prince, was supposedly hired as a professor at the University of Hawaii. It was widely assumed that this was done so that Kevin could continue collecting money for Sean and Jayden.

In Hawaii, child support laws differ in that a parent can collect child support until their child reaches the age of 23 if their child is enrolled in college or a trade school. Because Sean graduated from high school in June, many anticipated Kevin would take advantage of this loophole.

When does Britney's child support payments for Sean Preston end?

Britney's child support payments for Sean will terminate on September 14.

Though K-Fed seeks to change the terms of the child support, he might not find it that easy despite the shift to Hawaii.

If child support was established in another state, the state where it was established has exclusive jurisdiction, stating verbatim: "In a proceeding to modify a child support order, the law of the state that is determined to have issued the initial controlling order governs the duration of the obligation of support."
