If you catch someone following a little girl, the last thing you would expect their parent to do is laugh. In these trying times of plummeting child safety, parents need to be vigilant about their children when alone outside. A viral Reddit post (u/mindyour) shared footage of a young girl fleeing someone who had been following her. Calling for help from her mother, she even banged on the door before running off again. As her mum hurried out to check what had happened, she could not help but choke on her laughter after she realized who was following her daughter.

The 24-second snippet captured by the Ring camera unfolds into a scene in the front yard. The bright sunshine lit up the green lawn until a girl’s voice terrorized the peaceful scene. “Mommy! They’re following me,” a voice yelled. Soon, a little girl dashes to the front door and yells again, this time with greater intensity, “Mommy! They’re following me! Mommy!” Then, the girl walks up to the door, bangs loudly, and then hides behind the wall. A loud shriek followed before the mom walked out, trying to control her laughter, “I told you to get in my car!”

The villain of the scene was no mysterious person, but eight ducks. When the girl ran to the other corner of the lawn, the flock of ducks popped into the video. A hilarious sight, the mother warned her daughter while cracking up, and then went back inside. Meanwhile, the ducks, pretty clueless, hung out on the lawn for a while as the daughter observed them from afar. “She realized she was being followed,” the post was captioned. The rib-tickling video was posted to the popular subreddit (r/MadeMeSmile), hinting at its funny plot.

However, several people had actually bought into the seriousness of the viral video, upvoted 9,600 times. “The post title gave me real apprehension until I found out who was following her,” a top comment (u/OxbridgeDingoBaby) stated, while another viewer (u/space_jiblets) said, “This went from really serious to really satisfying really quickly.” Someone else (u/TV800) mused, “OMG I thought this was the wrong sub for a second. Expecting something completely more aggressive.” One person (u/Rett_77) vouched for the girl’s reaction. “Listen, as a kid who was attacked by a malicious herd of geese over a loaf of bread, that girl reacted appropriately,” they wrote.

However, some people played along with the mysterious context with witty remarks. “The horror. They’re terrorizing that neighborhood, absolute menaces,” joked u/4Ever2Three and u/IntrovertMoTown1 suggested, “Gang violence is getting out of hand in that neighborhood.” A parent (u/Ghost403) shared, “As a parent, this started out as my worst nightmare, which quickly became comedy gold.” A commenter (u/Ancient_Rex420) talked about the whirlwind of emotions they felt watching the video. “I had a range of emotions watching this. From reading the title and expecting something else, but then I also saw I was in mademesmile, and confusion set in, and the video finished,” the note revealed. The internet is always a great place to look for funny videos– one of its greatest niches across platforms.
