Liza Minnelli at Oscars 2022
In 2022, Minnelli shocked her fans when she made a presence on stage with Lady Gaga during the Academy Awards.
She appeared in a wheelchair, leaving her fans disheartened.
An insider told RadarOnline.com at the time, “Liza rarely leaves the house anymore, so the Oscars were supposed to be such an important moment for her.”

“It turned out horribly, though, when she was brought out in a wheelchair instead of being seated in a producer’s chair, as she was expecting. She didn’t want people to remember her that way,” they added.
However, there was another side of the story behind Minnelli’s appearance in the wheelchair at the Oscars.
Singer Michael Feinstein, a longtime friend of Minnelli, had claimed that the dancer was "sabotaged" during the event.

Feinstein reportedly revealed that Minnelli “only agreed to appear on the Oscars if she would be in the director's chair because she's been having back trouble.”
He continued that his pal said, "I don't want people to see me limping out there. You know, I want to look good... I don't want people to be concerned about my safety."
But despite this, she was forced to sit in a wheelchair.
"Liza pleaded. She said, 'No, I will not be seen in a wheelchair in front of everybody. I will not do this. I refused to do this.' And they said, 'Well, it's either that or nothing,’” Feinstein added.
