Los Jones: Autistic 5-year-old left unattended by mom and aunt walks out of house and drowns in pond

HOUSTON, TEXAS: An hours-long search for a 5-year-old boy with autism ended in tragedy Thursday evening, September 28 in West Harris County, according to authorities.

Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a missing 5-year-old boy, Los Jones, who had wandered away from his home in the 5900 block of Longhorn Run Lane around 2:35 pm.

Authorities said the boy was with his mother and aunt when he went missing. Within minutes of receiving the call, deputies arrived at the location.

They learned from witnesses at the scene that the child had entered a nearby pond. A dive team was requested to the area, as reported by ABC13.

The sheriff's office released a picture of the child during the search and identified him as Los Jones.

A body believed to be of the missing 5-year-old was discovered in the water, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a few hours later, at around 8:22 pm.

Gonzalez expressed sympathy to the family on X.

Gonzalez wrote, "Sad news. Our dive team has recovered the body, believed to be the missing 5-yr-old male child. The child was located under water in a pond and pronounced deceased. Our condolences go out to the family. Media briefing will take place at the scene, shortly. "


CCTV footage shows Los Jones walking towards the pond

Majir Earl Dean from the sheriff's office claimed they could view the child walking toward the water on surveillance footage they obtained from a local resident's home.

Moreover, according to authorities, it's possible that the child was gone for over an hour before someone called 911, though the case is still under investigation. No charges have been filed yet, as reported by Click2houston.

Internet mourns five-year old Los Jones

Tributes poured in for the five-year old on X. One users penned, "Absolutely devastating. Praying for the family. I cannot imagine."

Another user wrote, "Very sad news. Prayers for his family and the first responders at this heartbreaking scene."

A different user offered prayers for the family and wrote, "I Am so sorry for this family. Appreciate all that you and our officers do to help families during these times. Keeping this child and family in my prayers."
