Maid of honor was jokingly told she could wear 'anything' — so she showed up as a T-Rex.

It started out as a joke but then it started to take a serious turn. Not a single person was left unsurprised at the maid of honor's choice.

It can be difficult to choose what to wear for a wedding, especially if you're the maid of honor to the bride who's told you that you can wear whatever you want. Cocktail dress, summer frock, elegant gown - the choices are numerous and the colors plenty. But this maid of honor decided on an outfit that is unconventional, to say the least. Laid-back bride, Deanna Adams, from Nebraska, decided to give her bridesmaids a free rein over their choice of outfit for her special day in order to help them feel more comfortable and happy. However, she probably did not expect her younger sister and maid of honor Christina Meador to turn up in what she did or at least follow through with her idea — a massive inflatable dinosaur costume.

It started as a joke when Christina, 38, from Texas, told the Daily Mail, she came up with the idea of it after her sister told her she could wear whatever she liked on her wedding day. "About a year ago my big sister texted me asking if I would be her maid of honor," she recalled.

"She, knowing that I'm not a big fan of wearing formal dresses and that I probably wouldn't have a lot of money to buy something really nice, reassured me by letting me know that I could pick out any outfit that I choose. I was trying to think of something that I would be willing to wear more than once and thought to myself, 'Well, she did say anything, and if I'm spending more than $50, I want it to be a dinosaur costume, because they're fantastic and I've always wanted one.' I sent her a text so that she could have a laugh - surprisingly she was ok with it!"

The maid of honor did admit to the news outlet that she would randomly change her mind and suggest some equally ridiculous outfits, one of which included the Doctor Who TARDIS. Yet, it was the dinosaur that "stuck" with her. As the day of reckoning was coming closer, Christina made her entrance with the T-Rex costume, reminding her sister about the unusual outfit. She told her she still was planning on wearing it. It was at this point, Christina recalled, that it became a game of "chicken" wanting to see who would crack first - whether Deanna would finally tell her she couldn't dress as a T-Rex and would have to wearthe second option she brought along which was a more traditional dress for a wedding. However, neither woman backed down and as Deanna stunned everyone in her beautiful white gown, Christina... well... looked like a dinosaur.

After Christina shared some of the photos on social media, the story went viral, quite obviously. She told the Daily Mail, "A couple of people asked if they could share it, and with my sister's permission I posted it on my Facebook page and allowed the closed group members to share from there - and then it got way bigger than expected. But it's nice to see that most people get it, and the few who didn't were at least just showing concern for my sister's feelings, not knowing her or the situation." And Deanna was quite happy to see the post go viral.

There were people who spoke against Christina but Deanna was quick to shoot them down. In response to a negative comment, Deanna wrote, "It's not a joke, it's a giant middle finger at spending thousands of dollars and putting ungodly amounts of pressure on ourselves just to please a bunch of people who, in the end, only want free food and drinks. The point was to get married to the man who treats me like I hung the moon, and we did that part."
