Mom challenges her male friends to hold her baby like she does — it went just as expected

A Dubai mother, Avery Stump, who goes by @averyindubai on Instagram, decided to put the men in her life to test—she challenged them to hold a baby with the same effortless ease as she does. In a video that has now gone viral, Stump is seen confidently carrying her 7-month-old baby girl on her hip. As she handed her baby to the men, the results were hilarious. What came as second nature to Stump wasn’t quite as easy for everyone else, leaving netizens in stitches.

In the footage, Stump hands her baby daughter to her brother and his friends, her future in-laws, her fiancé, and a family friend, who take turns carrying the baby. Their attempt to replicate her perfect hip led to much clumsy confusion, as reported by Newsweek. One participant even made baby Regis cry. However, Thomas managed to earn a pass, and Charlie’s attempt was also very close. Safe to say, moms make a lot of things look way easier than it is.

As the video made the rounds on social media, it sparked a debate among netizens. A woman, @b.whoyouwannabe, remarked, “I never realized men couldn’t do this. So cute. Our bodies are made to take care of babies.” Another person, @karlynn, wrote, “It’s stuff like that makes me really appreciate the differences in gender...makes me appreciate my hips!” A person, who goes by the username @darth.valerie, echoed, “Coming to think of it…I’ve never seen a man hold anything on their hips! Like a laundry basket or anything!”

As the comments poured in, a person, @hello.this.is.ashleigh, reasoned, “All the women causally ignoring the fact that not all women are hip-y. It’s not the fact that they are men that makes them not able to do it…they just haven’t done it much.” Similarly, a netizen, @zamzam.khn, argued, “For all those saying, men can't biologically do it, yes they can. These men are just extremely stiff, and they aren't sliding their hips to the side without moving the torso too. Men who dance, or who are more flexible or don't mind being and showing flexibility, can do it just fine.” Dr. Claire Shannon, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, also weighed in on the debate, explaining that women’s hips are naturally designed for the job. Their wider, more flared pelvis creates a built-in 'shelf', making the hip hold grip easy. She opined that while men's narrower hips make it trickier, many can still pull it off—if they’ve got the right flexibility and strength.
Meanwhile, have you ever noticed how moms seem to have a designated baby-holding arm? Turns out, it’s not just a habit—it’s science. Most moms instinctively cradle their little ones on the left side as they need their right hands to be free, as reported by Scary Mommy. But lefty moms also tend to hold babies on the left side. A study claimed that the preference for the left side has to do with how the human brain sends signals. The right side of the brain receives signals from the left side of our bodies, and the right side also is what controls our focus. Hence, by holding their babies on the left side, moms are able to be more observant of their children.
