Some people believe that children at weddings are a recipe for disaster. Mom Kristen Fox from California is having a tough time with strangers on the internet after her daughter’s mishap went viral. On her TikTok page, @thefoxsaystwins, she posted a hilarious video of her daughter using a bride’s dress as a napkin during what seemed like a wedding. While the 5-second clip was lacking the larger context, people were quick to judge the child’s behavior and link it with Fox’s parenting.

In 2022, Fox and her twins attended a rehearsal dinner for her brother and his fiancée Karsen Eckweiler’s wedding. Her 2-year-old daughter, Jayna, was unbothered by the bride’s pristine white dress and went ahead and wiped her face on it after downing chicken nuggets and fries with ketchup. In the video, the bride is engrossed in a conversation when the sudden tug on her dress warrants her attention towards the little girl. Jayna had buried her face into the gown until Fox’s sister pulled her away. The bride, noting the daughter’s innocence, laughed it off and went about her day. “When you can’t find a napkin, so you use the bride’s dress,” a note on the video joked.

Meanwhile, in the caption, Fox, 36, stated, “Do not recommend serving ketchup with the chicken nuggets and fries for the kiddie meal… or just don’t invite kids.” The mother captured the mishap, realizing it would make for an elite moment since her daughter loved princess dresses. The reality turned out a bit different. “I was filming because I wanted to capture Jayna’s reaction to seeing Karsen’s dress — I was thinking she was gonna be mesmerized. She loves princess dresses,” the mom of two told TODAY. However, the bride was barely irked. Instead, she showed compassion and kindness towards Jayna, who was also her niece.

“She's my niece — I could never be mad at her," Eckweiler revealed. Also, since the little one did not leave a stain to be worried about, there was no room for complaints. Fox acknowledged the bride’s empathetic reaction. On the internet side of things, the video blew up, receiving 76,000 hearts, but probably caught the wrong audience. Most people criticized Fox’s parenting or suggested kids be barred from wedding ceremonies for similar reasons. “I would never speak to the kid’s parents again,” wrote a critic (@meggy.jpg), and @audrina.islaa added, “I used to not understand when people said, ‘No kids’ at their wedding, but I think I understand now.”

Another comment by @alysalovely read, “Sure, hope that the parents at least offered to for the dry cleaning.” However, @awalkthrustorms supported, “In her defense, wedding gowns do look like big gowns.” While the comments were going off with criticism and negativity, the bride herself came to the mom and baby’s defense. “When the comment section is more bridezilla than the actual bride,” she responded. However, Fox says she agrees with the kid-free weddings since she and her husband had one too.
