Mom fools her kid by planting a boiled egg in Kinder Joy — but fellow parents aren't amused

Instead of simply saying no or allowing the treat, she came up with a sugar-free substitute that has the internet both amazed and confused.

For many parents, navigating a toddler’s grocery store request can feel like a delicate balancing act. Parents often want to say “yes” and see their little face light up, but also want to avoid a sugar overload, a sticky mess, or a toy that will be forgotten in five minutes. And when it comes to treats like Kinder Joy, with its split combo of sweet chocolate and a surprise toy, it’s easy to see why kids are instantly drawn to it. But one mom on TikTok decided to take matters into her own hands, quite literally.

Known as @iramotherhood2under2 on TikTok, she shared a video showing what she did when her toddler asked for Kinder Joy for the first time. Instead of saying no outright, she let him buy it, then quietly swapped out the chocolate and toy with something much more 'mom-approved.' The internet, however, wasn’t sure what to make of it. In the now-viral video, she completely disassembled the Kinder Joy at home. First, she removed the chocolate. Then, she cleaned the entire container, took out the toy, and replaced the treat with a boiled egg. To seal the deal, she glued the plastic halves back together, making it look untouched and ready to open.

The idea may have come from a thoughtful place, but the reaction online was mixed. Well, people had thoughts. It was certainly a creative move, and one that required a fair bit of time and effort. But despite the dedication, many online viewers weren’t impressed. One user, @ohhhthatsashley, didn’t hold back, commenting,  “Nah, I actually like my child.” @billie added, “Don’t buy it if you won’t let your kid have it.”@sally♡ wrote, “Glue on a bare egg is crazy work,  girl, just tell them no.”Others found the hack more confusing than clever.

@tommyisdabest asked, “Bro, just give the kid the candy.” While @aubs.secret.acc15🤫 theorized, “I think it’s like so they don’t ask for it again.” And @makniccole pointed out the missing fun factor, noting, “Damn, they couldn’t have the toys either?” The mom’s method may have come from a place of wanting to make healthy choices, but the internet’s verdict was that maybe the boiled egg wasn’t worth the glue and effort.

Not all parenting hacks spark debate. In contrast to the Kinder Joy egg swap that had the internet divided, another mom recently won hearts with a much calmer solution to a familiar parenting struggle: grocery shopping with toddlers. The wholesome story was featured in The Daily Net, where the mom shared her stress-free strategy of using a detachable twin seat on a shopping cart to keep her daughters safe, settled, and curious during supermarket runs. The video, which showed her twins calmly riding in the cart while their dad pushed it along, offered a refreshing take on how a little innovation can bring peace to otherwise chaotic moments. Unlike the Kinder Joy hack, Abby’s trick was met with pure praise.
