New mom wasn't ready to let visitors near her baby — but her nieces and nephews had other plans

A mother’s decision to keep visitors away from meeting her newborn baby unexpectedly led to a heartfelt and unforgettable moment for everyone. The video clip of the incident was shared on TikTok by Summer Rose (@summerrosejackson) and has since gained millions of views. Rather than welcoming the guests inside the house, Rose chose to show them her baby from behind a glass window, creating a barrier that kept her newborn safe and protected from any germs. This also began discussions on how to balance personal boundaries with maintaining connections.

As soon as Rose closed the doors and windows, all her relatives, including her nieces and nephews, gathered outside. They placed their faces against the glass windows to get a glimpse of the baby, as reported by Motherly. In the caption of the TikTok video, Rose wrote, “Hahah it’s a real life zoo over here in the best way.” The kids who gathered outside tried to talk to the baby, and a few of them couldn't even take their eyes off the newborn. Since the video was posted, several social media users rushed to the comment section of the video to share their views.

One TikTok user, @belenromo90, commented, “The fact that the family respected this and still showed up to meet the newest member. I didn’t want anyone around my newborn.” Another person, @ardendelany, wrote, “I am not a mom, but I am an ICU nurse. During that stage, they are so incredibly vulnerable, and the introduction to outside environment factors (human germs) should be slow. Overwhelming the body with a ton.” Similarly, @kyraallisonwebber chimed in and said, “As a mama with her 5th on the way, let's normalize this. People have got to stop exposing new babies to big germs in the first few months just to make people happy. Good job, mama!”

Another TikTok user, @sccbaut, appreciated the mom’s decision and said, “This is awesome! If I had suggested this, my in-laws would have probably said I was being dramatic and crazy. I am glad you were able to set boundaries.” A fifth person, @breannamerritt27, stated, “This is actually amazing. Nothing irritated me more than when people would visit and let their kids all over my newborn while I allowed them to hold my baby.” This mom made a safe space for her baby that still allowed family to be close, proving that there's nothing wrong with having boundaries.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that a newborn’s fragile immune system makes them vulnerable to germs. Protecting them means keeping them away from the crowd and anyone unwell. Regular handwashing is also very essential while holding a baby. Due to these reasons, many recommend keeping visitors, friends, and family alike limited. As a new parent, although it's good to be polite, protecting your baby’s health should always come before worrying about hurting anyone’s feelings. Remember, living in a germ-free environment is not a permanent thing, but in the first 3 to 4 months, it becomes very necessary, as reported by the Happiest Baby.
