Wedding photoshoots are getting creative by the day. It is also quite the challenge, from newlyweds picking offbeat destinations for the serene backdrops to taking the pain of dragging themselves in their wedding attire to pose for the perfect shot. When one couple decided to celebrate their holy union with a photoshoot on a pristine beach in Portugal, they probably did not weigh in the power of the waves there. Arthur Gillet, who goes by @artrgl on TikTok, witnessed a hysterical sight unfolding as the couple posed for pictures.

In a viral video posted to his page, Gillet, who hails from Liege, Belgium, stood at the top of a nearby hill and filmed a bride and groom holding on for dear life as the waves soaked them during a photoshoot. “POV: You chose the wrong place for your wedding pictures,” the text on the video teased. As he zoomed into a spot, Gillet could not believe what he saw. A bride tripped on the beach and struggled to get on her feet while the groom grasped her hand to help her stay put until it was safe. However, it was only the beginning of their beachy torment.

As the former less-intense wave passed, a bigger and fiercer wave came crashing down on the couple, wiping them out. By now, the bride was floating in the water, her wedding gown soaked. As the wave calmed, the groom rushed to her rescue while the photographers and bystanders also fled the scene. One brave woman kept filming the couple despite the natural hurdles. Eventually, the beach cleared out, and the drenched bride dragged herself forward to the dry zone. The video ended abruptly, but it was proof of how improper planning could ruin a special moment.

“Fail,” Gillet briefly captioned the post. One of the most popular posts on his page, the video garnered 1.1 million views and 15,900 likes. Talking to Newsweek, Gillet shared deeper insights about the couple’s behavior and his thoughts on the aesthetic photoshoot idea. "I was filming the waves, which were smaller than usual, when we saw this newlywed couple being photographed. We found it so funny because the shoot looked quite complicated, and then suddenly this unfolded before our eyes,” said the creator, who was visiting Nazare, Portugal, with his friends at the time.

He said he was filming from Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo and was there to observe the beach that had some of “the biggest waves in the world.” Someone should have warned the couple about that. “The bride and groom and the guests who accompanied them seemed to be laughing about it. That should certainly make for some spontaneous wedding photos,” Gillet noted. Surprised by the overwhelming response, the creator hoped to see the resulting photos someday.

Meanwhile, people were curious about the exciting photos that may have resulted from the incident. “I’d love to see those pictures!!! I’ll bet they are awesome!!!” said @harrisondl4 while @yasminetenise1 said, “She’s probably laughing so hard…Hope they got lots of pictures. These unplanned moments can be some of your best, funniest memories.” “You know this is that place with those gigantic waves that surfers all over the world go to, right? This could be so much worse, “ @bulletmagnetnj warned.
