The quick thinking of a pregnant woman from Iowa saved the life of a young 2-year-old boy. She sprung into action and caught the child as he fell from a second-story window.

Kyrie Jones, 35, saw a 2-year-old boy throwing objects from a second-story window of her neighbor's house on May 8 as she was walking her dog in front of her Des Moines home, per CBS station KCCI. The kid reportedly started leaning over the edge of the window at one point. “No, no, no!” Jones yelled at him. “Go get Mommy!” The pregnant mom unsuccessfully attempted to contact someone at the house on Merle Hay Road she began pounding and ringing the doorbell, but no one answered. She then made a police call and returned to the window to watch the child.

The baby by then had fallen out of the window. "When I came back out, the baby was holding onto the ledge hanging. So, I stood right underneath him just in case," Jones, who is 33 weeks pregnant, said through tears. Then as soon as the boy started crying, she screamed for help. "I was screaming … The window was open, so I was hoping that someone might hear me." In the end, the kid lost his balance and fell out of the window. Luckily, immediately before he hit the concrete, Jones caught him in what she described as “an almost squat position.” "He kind of hit my belly a little bit. I think the adrenaline kicked in, and I didn't feel anything," said Jones. The boy was "okay."

Police arrived at the scene shortly after. Later, the boy's mother also joined him outside. Sergeant Paul Parizek, a spokesman for the Des Moines Police Department, told PEOPLE that the mother of the kid had left him alone for a "short period" inside their townhome. Parizek informed the newspaper that although no charges have been brought, the subject has been forwarded to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.

Jones shared that she doesn't want to think about what may have happened if she had not been present, per Washington Post. “That’s a pretty high drop, especially onto concrete,” she said, adding, “I would have walked out to either a crime scene or a baby screaming.” She further added, "I am just glad I was there at the right time," said Jones. "As long as the baby is safe, I am good."
