WWE stars John Cena and Nikki Bella decided to break off their engagement after six years together with less than three weeks to go for their wedding.
After being together for six years, WWE superstars John Cena and Nikki Bella have decided to go their own ways.
The couple had only a few weeks to go before they were to get married, but it appears that their relationship struggles eventually caught up to them, and they amicably called off their engagement.
The couple released a statement to Us Weekly that officially announced their decision to split. It read, "While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."
Cena, 40, and Bella, 34, first started seeing each other in 2012, and the couple had been spotted together on multiple occasions, the last of which was at Wrestlemania 34 on April 8.
In fact, just last year, Cena proposed to Bella at Wrestlemania 33 after their mixed tag-team match in a highly emotional moment that made the crowd go wild.
Unfortunately, things didn't seem to have worked out for the couple, and they posted to Instagram to convey the news of their breakup in their own ways. Bella reposted the statement she made to the press, and Cena posted a quote by Walt Whitman that read, "We were together. I forget the rest."
In fact, merely a month ago, Cena spoke to Us Weekly about how difficult it was to keep their relationship going amid their busy schedules. He said, "Relationships are hard. Don’t ever think that love is easy. Love is beautiful, but we’ve had to come to the realization after being together for five years that love is not easy."
Such a fun night at the @blockersmovie premiere with my Love! Absolutely love this fun, one of the funniest movies I have seen in such a long time! Make sure to go see it this weekend!! Just so incredibly proud of you @johncena You’re so amazingly talented and humble, can’t wait for the world to see how funny you are! And freakin’ adore @ikebarinholtz he’s just so funny and cool! And @lesliemann is such a queen! 🐓 #blockersmovie #blockers #thisweekend
Cena added, "We work every day on us. We have our problems just like everybody else. Some of our problems are very public, some of them aren’t. But we work every day on us. Anytime I get upset, I always just realize that I can’t live without her and I love her and that’s why I cave in on a lot of stuff."
He may have revealed part of the reason behind their breakup, saying, "It takes being able to mesh two lives. I would never ever want Nicole to be in a position where she says, ‘I’m holding you back from doing this because I feel it’s wrong for us.’ And I would never say that to her."
So crazy proud of my Love @johncena I can’t remember the last time I laughed out loud through an entire comedy. I have to say the strong female in me LOVED seeing the female perspective of sex in high school.... and can I say finally! And the fact that it was directed by a woman, Kay Cannon, who is so amazingly talented, made it even better! I can’t wait for you all to see it this April! Everyone’s performance was so good and @lesliemann is such a comedic goddess. My Love, goodness, you amaze me everyday, you’re so crazy talented, love you so much! And that outfit... yeah... try on your outfit before you go to an event! So you don’t have to wear a scarf in 90 degree weather to cover up your girls! Lol Good bye Austin, until next time! #sxsw #blockers #blockersmovie
Cena continued, "That’s why she’s super busy and sometimes we don’t see each other for months at a time, but when we do see each other, it’s our time together. I think, for now at least, that is certainly what’s making this work."
Bella had been busy with her reality TV shows, 'Total Divas' and 'Total Bellas' with her twin sister, Brie Bella, which is probably what kept her and Cena apart.
