While breakups can be due to several reasons which may seem pretty permanent, there are still some things you can do to get your ex back. While bouncing back to them and doing things which might make you look clingy is a terrible idea. Here are some tips you should follow if you’re trying to get your ex back:

1. Avoid immediate contact

Easier said than done, but you have to do it. If you’ve just broken up, give your ex some time and space by completely losing touch with them. No texts, no calls, no checking up on them. Use this time to focus on yourself instead.

Keep your emotions in control, talking to a friend will work wonders. Hit everyone up but your ex. Allow them some time to rethink their decision, if they miss you, they themselves will try to contact you.

Why is this a bad idea?

Constantly calling and bothering your ex will only push them away. They’ll think that you’re super clingy and overly attached. If you’ve been doing it, stop immediately. No matter how hard it is for you, on the outside act as if nothing is really bothering you.

When you are always available, others start taking you for granted, thinking that no matter how shitty they treat you, you’ll still stick around. Give your ex some time to miss you. In the meantime, you can think about what was causing problems in your relationship.

2. Act unaffected and take good care of yourself

Don’t let this affect your body. Avoiding food and going outside is never a good idea. Meet your friends, distract yourself for the time being. Consider consulting a therapist if you don’t wish to talk to someone you know.

Let your emotions out, it’s okay to cry. Grieve as much as you want. Avoid thinking about your ex. Try going out for movies, amusement parks or to the beach, anywhere you like. Spend more time with your family and loved ones. Spending time with your pet is proven to decrease stress levels.

3. Make them miss you

No, don’t contact them. Leave this to social media. Start posting pictures of yourself, looking irresistible. Spend more time with your friends of the opposite sex. Get a makeover. Make your ex regret leaving you.

When you begin spending more time with other people and act indifferent towards your breakup, your ex will realize that others find you attractive and interesting and they can steal your heart anytime.

4. Initiate conversation

After a month has passed, initiate a conversation with your ex. Be it a random casual text or ‘accidentally’ run into them at a supermarket or at a party. Keep your conversation simple and to the point. Do not come off as needy.

5. Make a move

After keeping things casual and friendly for a while, consider making a subtle move. Ask your ex out for a movie you think they’d love to watch or ask them to meet and ‘catch up’ over coffee. Make sure you do not use the word ‘date’ in your conversations.

Relationships are very fragile. They become even more delicate after you’ve broken up once. If you’ve come so far that now you’re friends with your ex again, do not mess it up by saying something stupid. Wait for the right time. Be patient.

6. Start taking interest in their interests

If you wish to get your ex back, start taking interest in their hobbies and interests. If your ex is a football fan, talk about football with them. If your partner is a gamer, tell them about this new awesome game you’re absolutely hooked too and so on. Make their interests yours.

By doing so, you’re giving your ex a sign that you two are compatible and have similar tastes. Spending more time with your partner will definitely spark up some memories and your ex will start thinking about all the good times you both have spent together.

Show your partner that after everything has happened, after so much time has passed by, you still care about them like you used to. Remember the little details about them and wish them on their birthdays, send them innocent good morning and night texts. Let them know you still care about your ex and you always will.
