Mountaineer who was presumed dead after steep fall, found by a drone after 36 hours

On an expedition, a 65 year old famous mountaineer, Rick Allen, fell from the height of 26,000ft and was presumed dead. He was doscovered, alive, by a drone 36 hours later!

Rick Allen, 65, was on an expedition to climb the highest peak of Himalayas in Pakistan, with his partner Sandy. The winds made Sandy turn his back on the climb and Rick carried on with his journey to climb Pakistan's Broad Peak, all by himself.

In the process, something terrible happened. Rick fell from a 26,000 ft ice cliff! He went missing for 36 hours, with no food on him. It was presumed that Rick was dead. A person at the base camp spotted a mountaineer's backpack and raised the alarm - as reported by BBC.

Luckily, Bartek Bargiel, a mountaineer on an expedition, was carrying his Mavic Pro, a drone, which he used to look around and search for Allen. He and his brother Andrzej sent out their drone to look for the missing 65-year-old and their high tech tool didn't disappoint them.

The drone flew around and its footage captured Rick Allen, still moving and trying to find a way. The rescuers were informed at once and they were able to determine Rick's exact location using the drone.

All the other mountaineers, too, came for Rick's aid. Rick only had minor injuries and was carried to the base camp. He was airlifted and was carried to a hospital immediately. He was diagnosed with a mild case of frostbite. Rick has already lost half a toe to frostbite.

After returning from his summit bid, Allen said, "a number of people had assessed the situation and come to the conclusion that I was not going to come back". He added: "I think Sandy knows me well enough that I can hang in in some pretty tough situations. But I think even he was struggling".
