Scarlett Johansson tracked down her lookalike from the '60s — then called her to a movie premiere

Lookalikes of movie stars and TV celebrities often emerge on social media, and these could include people who simply look like someone famous or even make efforts to look like their idols. But Marvel star Scarlett Johansson was shocked when she saw a picture of an elderly woman on Reddit who had an uncanny resemblance to her. The Hollywood celebrity didn't stop there and decided to locate her to extend a special invitation to one of her movie premieres. The woman is named Geraldine, and she became an internet sensation after her grandchild posted her old picture on social media. Even though Johansson isn’t on social media, she heard about the viral Reddit post. The photo in question was captured when Geraldine was only 22 years old.

In a video shared by Johansson, she said, “Geraldine, I cannot tell you I have been absolutely inundated with emails and messages about how much we look alike, and I had to look at the photo myself. Holy crap, I want to meet you in person.” As reported by TIME Magazine, she added, “I saw that you were, quote, ‘drunk as a skunk’ when taking that photo, and I would like to see your drunk face. I want to share a drunk face with you. Let’s have a drink, Geraldine.” The actress then asked, “Do you want to come to see ‘Rough Night’ with me? Be my guest.”

Geraldine’s grandson said, “In a heartbeat, she said yes. Who says no to Scarlett?” He added, “It’s an awesome feeling knowing that someone who deserves a little spotlight, like my grandma, gets to experience something like this.” In 2017, Johansson opened up about the interaction on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." She shared the details about her bond with "Grandma Geraldine." Speaking to the host, she said, "People were like, 'Oh my god, you have a doppelgänger, and it's crazy.’"

Johansson continued, "So I looked at this link online, and this woman looks exactly like me. It's Denver Dodd’s grandma, and the picture was taken when she was 22." She also drew a comparison between Geraldine and her character in "Lucy." As reported by Unilad, the actress added, "She came to the Rough Night premiere, and we did get kind of trashed. She is so nice!" In another unexpected twist, Geraldine’s daughter happens to own a bar in Arkansas. Johansson, clearly happy with the connection, promised to stop by someday, calling it a chance to keep their newfound family reunion going.

Meanwhile, Johansson isn’t the only celebrity who has come across her lookalike. Fans of Jalen Hurts, for example, couldn’t help but notice his striking similarity to actor Shemar Moore, as reported by People Magazine. In 2019, "F.R.I.E.N.D.S" star Courteney Cox shared a social media post with a filtered photo with a beard, and she was practically a mirror image of Jared Leto. Another example is that of Tyler James Williams, who has often been said to resemble Orlando Jones, who, interestingly enough, has also been considered a doppelgänger for Solange Knowles.
