Every year, Halloween comes as an opportunity to showcase creativity and festive spirit. From youngsters to adults, everyone dresses up in eerie costumes of ghosts, spirits, and popular Halloween characters. In 2023, a schoolboy from Admiral Moorer Middle School turned heads with his impeccable costume that intrigued adults and all of the internet, as per AL.com. As per Eufaula City Schools spokesperson Mitzi Clayton, the costumes were part of a “Harvest Dance” event which was a way of building student engagement. In a viral image doing rounds on social media, the boy dressed up in a cleverly designed attire separating his torso from the legs, as if the body was sliced in half, as seen in an X post (@nocapfelix).

The boy from the aforementioned school in Eufaula, Alabama was photographed standing with two other kids who were the winners of the show and the boy had won the third prize. He wore a blue extra-large shirt falling below his knees while the torso was made up of khaki pants fixed alongside his waist, complete with accessories to impart the grotesque effect. His outlandish Halloween costume undoubtedly stood out in comparison to the other two youngsters. However, internet users were baffled by the fact that the boy got the third prize despite the spectacle of a costume he pulled off.

“Dude got third place for this costume. How's this fair?” the X post’s caption asked. The costume, which looked physically impossible, piqued the interest of people, most wondering about the tactics used to assemble the spectacle. “Sorry but someone has to explain how he's doing that? Is he disabled?” a clueless user (@LFCGeezy) pondered. Meanwhile, the majority of the fans reacted wildly calling out the biased judgment on the contest. “They pulled a reverse racism card,” wrote another person (@MexMartialArts) hinting at the boy, who was of African-American race, while the other two winners were white Americans.

The schoolboy’s miraculous feat also reached the forums of Reddit. A person (u/smoakenshield) reshared the photo of his costume on the platform, which has now been upvoted 38,000 times. As expected, dozens of comments popped up under the post sparking a discussion about the ingenuine costume. “So nobody gonna say how?” wrote an irked netizen (u/RussianBot101101) while another (u/JayHighPants) exclaimed, “I can’t believe they only came 3rd! I thought for sure 1st or 2nd!”

An elaborate comment by a Reddit user (u/DiverNumerous6473) explaining the costume, stated, “He is leaning to his right but the pants have a whole bunch of weight (ballast) in them to keep him standing up straight. Awesome costume and robbed of first place.” “It looks a lot less impressive if you see it from any angle other than this one,” quipped someone else (u/Lineslies). A comic (u/Babebutters) joked, “That kid needs to see a chiropractor.”

Amid the growing chaos around the unfair judgement from the school, the spokesperson Clayton pointed out that the competition was not just about the costumes. Turns out, the event included a skit, with points based on the theme the children had chosen and their level of engagement with the audience. So, Clayton explained that even though it was an eye-catching costume, the boy couldn't grab the first place in the event.
