Tim McGraw joined a dad battling cancer for a duet recorded as a wedding gift for his daughters

A father-of-two who recently discovered that he has terminal cancer had just one wish: to be there for both his young daughters' future weddings in some capacity. Mike Hugo took to social media to request anyone who knew Tim McGraw to get him to connect with him to live his dream of singing with the country superstar. He picked the music icon's 2006 song, My Little Girl to play, when his daughters Bridget, 6, and Brooke, 7, get married. He knew the chances of attending his children's big days in the future were slim as he had stage 4 glioblastoma, a cancerous and aggressive brain tumor.

"The median survival for this very aggressive brain cancer is 14 months. That was about 10 months ago," he said in the video shared on February 9, adding, "What I've been trying to do as much as possible is give my children all the life lessons I can in a short amount of time." The 37-year-old remained hopeful and wanted to celebrate with his two daughters on their | wedding days in any way that he could.

"One of my dreams is to be with my little girls for their wedding and be there dancing with him," Hugo said. "But statistically, it's going to be tough. And I'm going to fight hard to get there, but one of my dreams or goals… is to do a duet [of] My Little Girl with Tim McGraw and do a little video that we could play during their wedding." The power of the internet continues to surprise everyone and Hugo's plea quickly went viral, and soon, he and his wife Vanessa, mom Lori, and two daughters were invited out to Nashville by McGraw himself!

The story hit close to home as McGraw's own father baseball star, Tug McGraw, died of glioblastoma in 2004. The singer has been a vocal advocate for brain-related trauma research ever since. Hugo told Good Morning America that McGraw "rolled out the red carpet" for his family.

"We went to the Grand Ole Opry and I put a tuxedo on and I danced with my girls in the circle," said Hugo. "It was just incredible. Just an amazing experience, and so thankful that we were able to make it happen." And of course, just as he wished the two recorded a duet of My Little Girl. "He just couldn't have been more gracious with his time and energy," Hugo said of McGraw. "He still took the time to sing with somebody [who] can't carry a tune in a bucket."

The dad wanted to teach his daughters another lesson and that was to dream big! "The big life lesson is, 'Hey, whatever you want to do? You could do it,'" he said. "You know, the trick is to actually just do it."
