NORTHERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA: The identities of a family of six, including a couple and their four young daughters, who died in a car accident in the Northern Territory on September 29 have now been revealed.

The father of the children – aged one to nine years — 34-year-old Titus White, was a repeat drunk driver and did not put seat belts around his daughters before the crash, the Daily Mail reported.

The tragedy claimed the life of White’s partner, Lisa Martin, too as they were traveling in their Mitsubishi Pajero. The deceased girls' names have not been disclosed.

How did the accident happen?

As per reports, the fatal crash happened Friday afternoon, September 29, as the car turned toward the path of a triple road train while traveling at Pine Creek near Katherine south of Darwin.

Soon the vehicle burst into flames after crashing into the truck loaded with produce, cars, and fuel, killing all people onboard.

NT Police called the tragedy the deadliest in over 15 years.

Police Commissioner Michael Murphy reportedly said, “While we call it an accident, it's not really an accident. There's some sort of element involved that could contribute to that whether it's mechanical, it could be road surface, it could be roadway, human.”

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck and its co-driver have survived.

“They have a number of injuries but the psychological injuries they'll carry for the rest of their lives,” Murphy stated.

“Our sympathy and condolences are offered to the family and friends of those who lost their lives. It is expected (the truck drivers') injuries will heal over time and we are arranging support counseling for them and their families,” a statement by Road train company Shaw's Transport read.

Besides, a witness shared that the truck driver “tried to help the family.”

They added, “He had just got away with his life, I'll never forget the look on his face.”

Titus White was convicted four times of drunk driving

White, who was a desert council ranger for years, had a criminal history, and was previously convicted of drunk driving, the Daily Mail report said.

The report also added that the man faced charges for “driving children around without being restrained properly three times between 2014 and 2021.”

Besides, White was also pressed with domestic violence and aggravated assault charges regarding a February incident this year.
