However, his personal and professional life went south after his throat cancer diagnosis in 2015.

As per Parade, Kilmer’s current net worth is calculated to be nearly $10 million, which is a major drop from his active years when he used to make $6 to $7 million from a single project.
Dire straits led Val Kilmer to documentary
Money issues even took him to the path of a documentary, giving more insights into his personal life and struggles.
‘Val’ was released on Amazon Prime in 2021 and at the time, Kilmer reportedly shared, “At least once a day for years I looked around and got this bittersweet feeling that there are a thousand reasons that this project could’ve been shipwrecked.”

“I mean, what could a film look like of a man filming himself, sometimes daily, years at a time? It is unimaginable that this movie actually could’ve ever come to light without the partnership of my dear friends, Leo and Ting, and my producing partners,” he stated.
The 63-year-old actor also added, “Tireless hours of editing and endless emotions with each new cut! I couldn’t be more proud to share this with the world!”

Though the ‘Heat’ star has not been active in show business for a while, he appeared in last year’s hit movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

Describing how he got the role, Kilmer wrote in his book ‘I’m Your Huckleberry’, as reported by USA Today, “As the Temptations sang in the heyday of Motown soul, ‘ain’t too proud to beg.’”
“The producers went for it. Cruise went for it. Cruise couldn’t have been cooler. … Tom and I took up where we left off. The reunion felt great,” he added.
