Vera Wang Shares Her Age-Defying Secrets, Says It Was Never a Goal

Instead, her dedication to her career as a designer keeps her grounded, while prioritizing self-care to continue pursuing her passion. While appreciative of the compliments on her ageless looks, Wang states, "I'm very flattered that people think I've aged well, but it was never my goal," she continues, "I drink vodka, I sleep, I avoid the sun. But I like to work. I don't want to be pigeonholed."

At the age of 40, Wang established her own independent brand, which propelled her into the bridal industry. Her love for the craft has only deepened over time. "I've always focused on work. Work was my lifeline that kept me feeling relevant and challenged me over the years," she continues. "I think the mind is more powerful than one could ever understand. The challenges that work and life present us is what keeps us going. That and sleep. I can sleep around the clock."

To strike a balance between working and relaxing, Wang tries to get at least seven hours of sleep, ideally nine. "I think it's so important. I try my best to pace myself, but with social media and the way the world has changed, it's just outpaced the human brain and everything we can deal with," she explains. Along with ample rest, Wang always wears sunscreen to shield her skin and enjoys the occasional vodka cocktail in the evenings. However, she emphasizes that keeping her mind engaged is the most crucial factor for longevity.

Wang's clientele includes a range of notable individuals for whom she has created wedding gowns, such as Hayley Williams, Ariana Grande, Chelsea Clinton, Karenna Gore, Ivanka Trump, Campbell Brown, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff, Khloe Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian. Additionally, former First Lady Michelle Obama has worn Wang's evening wear, adding to her impressive list of clients. In addition to her work in the wedding industry, she has contributed to figure skating by designing costumes for numerous members of the American Olympic team.
