Losing your luggage at an airport terminal can be a nightmare. Even though it is rare, not finding your luggage in the conveyor belt is vaguely possible. To put things into perspective, out of the 26 million mishandled bags in 2022, only 7 percent did not make it back to their owners, per AFAR Media. In that case, however, airports do not wait around forever for the owner to come and claim their lost baggage, wherever they might be. Following 2 months of storage, or lying around in a corner of the airport, these luggage are sold, donated, or auctioned. TikTok user (@beckysbazaar), identified as Becky Chorlton, who has 400k followers on the platform, got her hands on one such lost baggage for only $100.

Chorlton bought glossy blue luggage from London’s Heathrow Airport, which had been unclaimed for three months since lost. Her eyes caught the expensive-looking suitcase and brought it home to uncover what lay beneath, and “find out if it’s a scam or not.” However, the woman was happy she got a good bargain as the suitcase, a Delsey, cost about $300. Like found treasure, she decided to unpack the lost baggage and share her discoveries on the internet. Unzipping the chain, the initial item she uncovered was an anti-itch cream, followed by brand-new white underwear. “Which isn’t a good start,” she quipped, as she unwrapped all the other items.

The woman was thrilled to find a couple of stunning traditional dresses and loads of toiletries like pads. She concluded that it was a woman’s bag as she showed a cool "Pink Floyd" t-shirt and other cute tops. Chorlton marked the expensive Tommy Hilfiger coat that she found as the “best clothing item” from the suitcase. A makeup pouch full of products included a Maybelline Sky High mascara, an Elf primer, used brushes and blenders, nail care kits, and half-used cotton pads. Returning to the trove of clothes and belongings, she found brand new t-shirts from H&M intact with the price tags and Levis's vintage jeans. A green floral dress had its tag on, worth about $98. A pink sports bra and a purse from Guess followed. But the woman was rather disheartened to discover that it was a fake.

Finally, she picked out a receipt from New York 5th Avenue, suggesting the owner might have been American or traveling from New York. She said, “I was so skeptical about buying this because most of the reviews say it’s a scam.” Chorlton also pointed out that basic essentials like socks and shoes were missing from the suitcase. However, she did not hesitate to buy another lost baggage to try her luck at great finds. The video went viral, attracting over 90.1k likes and dozens of insights from viewers. “This isn't my suitcase but I feel violated,” quipped a user (@_prinsesta_) while a second user (@rainsemporium) expressed, “I would feel like I paid to rob someone and this feels like an older ladies' bag. I just couldn’t.” “You’re so brave for not using gloves,” declared a person (@hanreads_).

Most of the comments criticized the woman’s approach for not only buying but also not respecting the owner’s privacy by publicly showing her things. According to abc7NY, the U.S. DOT advises airlines to compensate passengers for lost baggage on domestic flights with a cap of $3,800 and $1,700 for international flights. But that is rarely the case with no limit on the minimum amount.
