Woman shares a clever trick to stop men from bothering her at the beach — and it works every time

Being approached by men in a public space is an issue that women face across the globe and tourists are often on the receiving end of such behavior. Sometimes, women just want a quiet day at the beach enjoying the waves and the sunshine without unwanted attention, but that’s what a lot of women have to deal with. Thankfully, TikTok user Leila Layzell (@leila_layzell) has shared a strategy that can help a lot of women ward off that unwanted attention.
The TikTok video has garnered more than 81,000 likes and several users have commented stating how relatable the experience of being approached by total strangers is. Leila, however, welcomes these men with open arms. Whenever a guy asks for her number, she turns her camera towards him and says, “Can I show my mom my husband?” This immediately forces the man to leave the scene and some even try to hide their faces as per New York Post.
Leila concluded that most of these “surfer boys” are scared of the idea of marriage. However, the users who commented on her video had something different to say. “If man is scared to show his face like that after asking for a number, he has a wife or has criminal thoughts,” one user commented. “He has a wife or gf,” quipped another.

While this tactic helped her successfully ward off a few men, it didn't always work that way. In a separate video, a man wearing a red shirt and a straw hat approached her and she did the same thing. Only this time, he did not run off or hide his face. He was up for the task and spoke straight to the camera. “She’s my future wife. I like your daughter ma’am and I want to marry her,” he said.
Judging by his accent, he was also probably a tourist from a different country enjoying a day at the beach. “Bro has some game.. at least I've given a bit of credit for trying,” a user named Zac’s Bac commented.

While this TikTok got a positive reaction, the same cannot be said for one of her other videos. In this instance, Leila walked up to a stranger and started a conversation. After a bit of introduction, she said that she was having a bad day and wanted to do some “retail therapy” to cheer herself up. She then told the man that there was a Marc Jacobs pop-up close by and asked if he could buy her a bag.
The guy was confused at first and said, “It is unusual,” looking at Leila with a perplexed expression. However, he agreed to get her what she wanted. “You said you’ve had a bad day right?” he asked before taking her to the pop-up for a bag. Now this could be all scripted with the man being a paid actor but that did not stop some TikTok users from raising concerns

“I should hope he got something in return? doesn't seem quite fair,” one user called AD1TI commented.
