Woman wearing a Metallica t-shirt was mockingly asked to 'name 3 songs'. They were not ready for her.
Traditional gender roles and stereotypes are supposed to be a thing of the past but some people still can't see beyond those and continue to judge women even if they like certain genres of music. Heavy metal is one such kind of music, which is usually associated with a male fanbase even though bands such as Evanescence and Arch Enemy have shattered stereotypes. The bias against female listeners of the music still exists, making the environment quite toxic for some.
This was highlighted by musician Zaria (@zariasmusic) in a TikTok video that has garnered 730,000 views as per Good. She had posted videos wearing a Metallica t-shirt in 2020 and it did not take long for trolls to target her. Many claimed that she was only wearing the t-shirt to look cool without listening to the band.
@zariasmusic Reply to @paytonnsmith I hope this video finds the #Metallica fans lol, not my best #guitar playing but that wasn’t really the point #guitarist ♬ original sound - Zaria
So Zaria, being a musician, used her art to shut them up. A comment from one @paytonnsmith demanded that she name three Metallica songs. She was obviously frustrated with such comments but instead of showing anger, she let her music do the talking. “So my response to you guys is, like really? Only three? Only three songs? How ’bout I play ’em on guitar for you,” she said as she played riffs from Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, and One.
These are three classic songs by the iconic heavy metal band that most fans have heard. She received immense support for what she did, both from within and outside the metal community. Even the band shared an article about Zaria on their official Instagram handle. “We’ve done it, my life is complete. This will forever be my favorite band. My deepest gratitude to the band and everyone who tagged them,” she wrote.

Legendary musician Nita Strauss spoke about this matter recently and Metallica’s name was brought up. Strauss, who has worked with icons like Alice Cooper and Angel Vivaldi has been around for several years. She usually loves her fans but acknowledges the presence of some toxic elements.
"The thing about the rock and metal world – which I love and is my home – is that it's a bunch of whiny, complainy babies,” she said as per Ultimate Guitar. "If a band makes a slight departure from what they've done before, the fanbase cries about it: 'Everything they're doing is terrible now!' Metallica are the biggest band in the world and people still s*** on their new stuff."
December 7, 1986, Nita Strauss was born in Los Angeles, California. She is an American guitarist, recognized for her work with the tribute groups THE IRON MAIDENS and LA KISS, and with the band Femme Fatale. In June 2014 she replaced guitarist Orianthi in ALICE COOPER's band. pic.twitter.com/XEknnh1WOz

There is a belief among certain fans that Metallica strayed away from their thrash metal roots and experimented too much with other forms of music ever since the Master of Puppets album. There is a considerable amount of dislike towards the band from that particular section of fans. However, given the number of stadiums the legendary metal band sells out every year, it’s safe to say that the haters are quite small in number.
