Airbnb hosting is mostly scary, but may occasionally lead a homeowner to interesting stories for them to narrate later on. Airbnb owner Laura Jimenez, who owns a cozy apartment in Washington for guests to rent, found herself investigating a mysterious booking. Soon after the Airbnb guests who had booked her place for the weekend checked out, she stepped in for a quick inspection. She was baffled when she realized most of the apartment seemed untouched while three people had apparently stayed there during the stay. It wasn't until she discovered the note left in the guest book that she found some clarity to the situation. On her TikTok page, @airbnbgirllaura, Jimenez explained what went down.

Starting the inspection routine, Jimenez, 49, said, “Something about this checkout feels off.” Filming every aspect of her Washington apartment, the host showcased how the entire house was almost untouched and left as it was, despite hosting three guests. “Kitchen completely untouched, fridge is empty, not even a single dish used, which is weird for a three-person stay. Living room– spotless,” the 49-year-old disclosed. Moving onto spaces likely to be used, like the bathroom, she was surprised to see the towels still rolled, and the first bedroom also appeared unused, as the sheets were perfectly aligned as before. However, the second bedroom condition revealed that there was, in fact, a person staying in.

“Okay, they did use this bedroom. The bed’s unmade,” the host noted. She was not hosting a ghost after all. But again, the relaxation room was “untouched”, which is strange for a fun girls’ weekend night. “Second bathroom. Well, that looks pretty clean, and I see two unused towels in the second bedroom. So, did they even shower?” Jimenez asked. Finally, getting to the root of the issue, she flipped the guest book and made a discovery. “On my way out, I see it. Turns out, the girls’ trip got cancelled and she stayed here alone.” Since it is highly unusual for guests to leave the Airbnb spotless, Jimenez figured there was something suspicious about her recent stay booking. However, the reason behind it came across as heartbreaking for her.

In the overlay text of the video, she shared, “The guest explained that her friends got sick and couldn’t attend their girls’ weekend. So she stayed by herself.” In a conversation with Newsweek later on, Jimenez expressed, “I felt very sad when I read the guest's sweet note in the guestbook. Heartbreaking. But glad she enjoyed her stay anyway.”

The emotional story wrapped with the video resonated with many people on the internet, amassing 932,000 views and dozens of insights. The popular opinion was that several of them actually check out of Airbnbs, leaving the property neat and tidy. One person (@marthajones47) stated, “I leave every Airbnb like this, also, now I’ll be self-conscious that the owner will make a video of how I leave the house from now on.”

Similarly, an elaborate note by @shirleyguzperson read, “That looks like I stayed there. I even sweep, even though I know I don’t have to. I just like having nothing on the floor. I bring my own towel. I clean the bathroom sink every night. Treat these places like your own home because it’s actually someone’s home, not a hotel.” Another person (@key_lime_sandra) said, “I leave every single Airbnb as I got it. I do a full clean, ready for the next guests.”
