Amazon shopper orders a desk at grandma's house — what she got instead was unexpectedly wild

A TikToker's tale of a botched Amazon delivery has left the internet in stitches. Amanda Reed (@amanda_reed_2022) had ordered herself a desk for a new workstation, even rearranging her home and removing the kitchen table to make room. Having faced delivery issues at her address in the past, she decided to have it delivered to her husband's grandmother's house. Much to her horror, what got delivered was a s*x toy instead.

Reed shared that on delivery day, her 85-year-old grandmother had called to inform that a package had in fact arrived in the mailbox. Preoccupied, Reed didn't initially realize a desk wouldn't fit in a mailbox! When it finally dawned on her, she had the pensioner open the box and check what was inside. Reed recalled, “She reads an insert, and it says, ‘Mini massage erotica,’ and she said, ‘Justin [Reed's husband], I don’t think I can read any more of this.’” As reported by the New York Post, Reed added, “Y’all, I had to go pick it up to send pictures to Amazon. I have been dying."
The story left netizens amused. On TikTok, a person remarked, “Oh my god, I would have also died. Amazon has been tripping lately. Gone are the days of 2-day, accurate deliveries.” Chiming in, another shared, “I ordered a box of masks before Christmas on Amazon from a 3rd party seller... I got a Madonna CD… Amazon said to keep the CD. I’m deaf!” As the comments poured in, a netizen quipped, “Some woman is staring at a desk right now saying, ‘Well, this won’t work...’”

Reed later shared an update confirming that Amazon had refunded her for the order, and she had since bought a desk from Home Depot. Amazon also let her keep the unexpected 'gift.' Reed, for her part, made it clear that it had already found a new owner, as reported by Indy 100. She also shared that she was wary about the desk from the start given its odd reviews on Amazon— either it was five-star rating or one-star complaint. When she contacted Amazon for more details about the seller, she was told they couldn’t be reached, as they hadn’t provided any contact information, as reported by Daily Dot.
In 2023, a man from Salisbury had a similar experience when he received a shock package—his £1,300 iPhone was replaced with a bag of dog food. The unlucky customer, Ian Burton, questioned how a costly device could be substituted with pet supplies, pointing out a clear flaw in Amazon's security procedures. These worries were echoed by tech journalist and consumer advocate, David McClelland, who claimed he had seen numerous cases of consumers who were expecting expensive devices getting odd items instead, BBC reported.
