Raising a child has to come with an awful lot of discoveries. When a new mom struggled to calm down her baby, who had been crying for 10 hours on and off, she realized it needed an extraordinary resolution. Hannah Plunkett, who goes by @hannplunkett on TikTok, sprinted around her house to soothe her teething son, Oliver. The discomfort and pain of a new tooth coming up had the baby fussing and crying for an entire day while Plunkett tried out every way possible until a bright idea popped up in her head. The mother figured it was a good bet to recreate an environment where Oliver was at his calmest.

One day, Plunkett was particularly facing a challenge to quiet down her baby son. After crying for hours, the exhaustion almost caught up to her. As a last resort, the new mom switched on her TV and played mechanical sounds on YouTube. Surprisingly, her parenting hack worked. She also filmed the moment to share it as a fun post on TikTok, not realizing the potential of her baby going viral. In a video with 2.1 million likes, the mother showed her baby, content in his tiny swing, while strange mechanical noises echoed in the background. When the mom turned towards her TV, it depicted images of cars being fixed and a garage.

“Baby has cried off and on all day for 10 hours. Nothing has soothed him. I have tried everything. Turned on the mechanic sounds on YouTube, and he instantly stopped,” an overlay text on the hilarious snippet shared. A rather unpredictable approach, Plunkett explained why the sounds worked on her son in an interview with Newsweek. "Oliver's dad and grandpa are both mechanics. My mother-in-law runs the front desk of the family business and actually watches our son for us during the day in the office!" she revealed. Moreover, Oliver was generally calm while working in the office with her mother-in-law. The family assumed the baby perceived the noise of the mechanics in the same way white noise works on most kids.

Therefore, it was a moment of victory for the new mom and a clever way to handle future tantrums. “After 10 long hours, we decided to test the theory. He instantly settled down and stopped being fussy,” Plunkett added. Though the baby boy did calm down with the mechanical noise, the mom explained that since he is approaching six months, teething is at the center of his discomfort. “Soothing him sometimes is a challenge on rough days.” The comments were brimming with enthusiasm and humor as viewers witnessed the baby’s unusual quirk.

“When people say they try everything, they really mean everything,” quipped @hippotatomoose while @pure.attraction2 speculated, “He’s probably overstimulated now with all the sounds and forgot he has his own thoughts to cry about.” @hershemeonline joked, “Welp, he has his career picked out before most adults,” and @kingvhortz said, “Babies just love white noise. Crazy, your baby prefers an auto shop, though.”
