Baby fakes sleep every time her mom tries to wake her up — and her performance is Oscar-worthy

Everyone likes some extra sleep, but a baby surprised her mom with a clever trick to clock in those additional minutes of rest. TikTok mom Amanda Stella (@amandastella195) blessed the internet with a hilarious snippet of her baby girl, Mia, who seemed remarkably smarter for her age. Curled up in her cozy crib, the baby did not budge when her mom tried to get her out of bed. When she woke her up, the baby pretended to be asleep, knowing she would have to leave her comfortable bed. 

Noting her mischief, Stella filmed her baby girl implementing those tactics to confuse her mom. “Mia, you can’t sleep all day!” the mother said in a fairly stern voice. Meanwhile, the baby girl was hanging on the other end of her crib and immediately knew what to do next. She swooped back to her sleeping side and pretended to doze off. “Are you mad I woke you up?” Stella asked. Even though the baby’s face was turned away, it was clear she was wide awake and only pranking her mom. Every time her mother caught her awake, the mischievous baby girl hid her face and put up an act. 

“She is hilarious. I wouldn’t mind if she did this in the morning instead of waking up at the crack of dawn,” the mom captioned the post. A hit among viewers, the post received nearly 200,000 hearts and several comments about the baby’s tricks. People were entertained and expressed their cute aggressions with heartwarming notes. @christiansaidso wrote, “Her little wiggle to settle in. So cute.” While @stellabrate noted, “God forbid a girl bed rots in peace.” A viewer (@wheninrome314) admired her acting skills and wrote, “Oscar performance!” “It amazes me how young they do things like this,” quipped @michellehirsch3. 

However, a fellow mom (@autumnfauv) barely related to the scenario. “Mine just screams at the second she wakes up to be air-lifted out immediately, she has things to do,” the comment read. However, mischief in babies is generally seen as a sign of curiosity and exploration. According to Ovia Health, babies and toddlers who are extremely energetic have a natural affinity for creating trouble or mischief. Curiosity plays a major role in encouraging mischievous activities. Baby brains want to learn, play, explore, and try out new things to get a better understanding of the world around them. However, there is a difference between mischief and misbehavior. 

Conscious Mommy states that a child’s environment greatly influences their behavior. Overstimulated environments can overwhelm babies and result in misbehavior. Katherine L. Rosenblum, a developmental psychologist at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, explained, “One of the toughest challenges for new parents is to learn to decipher their infant’s cues. Sometimes you can figure out what he’s trying to tell you right away; other times, you completely miss the mark. And that’s OK as long as you keep trying,” per Atlanta Parent. In all fairness, little Mia’s mischief was a treat to watch and only indicated her energetic and fun-loving personality.
