Daughter randomly films divorced parents hugging each other — not knowing it would be their last meet

Life's uncertainty is often buried beneath the weight of monotony. One can never underestimate how every moment leads up to another for life to happen. Kerrian Connelly Carro, who goes by @kerriannconnellycarro on TikTok, sums it all up with one moving video of her divorced parents hugging each other. When she filmed it, the moment had ordinary significance, almost like every other hug her parents had shared. Now, Carro treasures the 9-second clip as a priceless memory of her father.

In the video, Carro’s parents lean in for a tight hug, her mother visibly emotional. She gives him a little cheek peck while he gently pats her back. The adorable sight was captured by their daughter from a distance. Holding back tears, the mother smiles at her husband fixing his jacket. Appreciating her concern, the father pinches her cheeks before turning away. To add context to the heartwarming sight, the creator shared that her parents were divorced over two decades ago, and this moment was their final video together. “My parents were divorced over 25 years ago. Met at 12, had me at 19. This was their last video together before my father passed,” an overlay text revealed.

Hoping to immortalize the shared love between her parents, though divorced, Carro posted the video to TikTok. She did not expect the overwhelming response and flood of thoughtful messages from people, amassing over 18.8 million views and 1.4 million likes. One person (@gi_Jayne) noted, “The way she straightened his jacket, and the way he pinched her cheeks, tells me everything I need to know about their love. It also seemed like a last goodbye.” While another (@mistletovia) said, “Souldmates don’t always mean married mates.” “This is so unintentionally deep,” a viewer (@fithcelsea_222) wrote.

Carro opened up to Newsweek about her childhood experience of enduring her parents' divorce. When she was in third grade, her parents split up. "This definitely distorted my view on relationships because I was raised by a single mom and a father who never emotionally recovered from losing the love of his life," she said. The ex-couple met in Brooklyn, New York, through mutual friends, and gave birth to Carro at 19. She disclosed that her parents never had a happy marriage and found it best to go their separate ways.

It was a coincidence that Carro’s parents happened to be in the same place when the video was filmed. She had stopped by her mother’s house after taking her dad to a radiation appointment. Days after her father passed away on April 17, Carro was casually scrolling through her phone and uncovered the hidden gem from her gallery. "The emotions were mixed. I was happy to have caught that moment, but sad and angry that I even had to feel any of those things because I lost my dad when he was only 58,” she noted. Carro lost her father to his terminal cancer diagnosis, only a month after the video was filmed.
