Delivery driver shares video addressing customers to highlight the importance of tipping
Tipping has been a standard practice at restaurants in the United States, and hence delivery drivers as well as hairdressers and store employees also expect tips for their services. Customers are now enjoying meals from their favorite places delivered right to their doorsteps. Although convenience for customers has increased, some aspects such as tipping are yet to be adopted by them when it comes to online delivery. There have been a lot of issues in this regard with many customers refusing to pay the drivers extra money just for delivering their food. Drivers on the other hand are complaining about not being compensated enough for bringing food after covering such long distances. One such rant about customers not tipping properly by @justmakethatmoney gained a lot of attention on the platform because of his valid points.
In the video, the TikToker who works as a Delivery driver was replying to a comment and explaining how delivery apps like Doordash dupe their employees into taking non-tipped orders. He explains their tactic by saying, "As we all know, everybody says it, no tip, no trip, but the way that these platforms get around it is they’ll send you a two to three-batch order and they will put together a tipper with a non-tipper because that’s the only way that they’re actually gonna get their food." Thereafter he goes on to directly address the customers by stating that no one wants to deliver orders to people that do not tip. He cited examples of the orders that are lying around in Mcdonald's and Chipotle because of the same reason. He explains that this is "Because all the drivers understand that if you’re not gonna value us as us bringing you your food, why the hell would we wanna pick up your food anyways?"
The TikToker emphasizes that the customers are not doing any kind of favor by providing them with tips. They are paying them for an essential service that ensures consumer convenience. He advises them to go to the restaurant and fetch food themselves if they are not willing to pay the drivers. There was disdain in his voice regarding the belief that drivers were not entitled to tips and he was appreciative of the customers who did tip. He stated, "Believe me, we don’t want you on the platform. We make way more money than you ever think, because there are people that value us and they understand that if you wanna sit your ass at home, the least you could tip is two, three, $4. Nobody’s trying to say, oh, you need to tip me $20 for one mile. No, it’s appreciated."
Viewers in the comment section mostly agreed with Ruiz, while some held differing opinions. @peanutbutterandprotien shared his opinion that tips are a basic courtesy and should always be given. He wrote, "I don’t understand why you wouldn’t tip someone bringing your food." @jedicatdog on the other hand presented a viewpoint that has been put forward by many customers in the present day, that the service industry should be paid appropriately by their establishment so that they do not depend on tips. He commented, "Why are you working for an employer that doesn’t want to pay you correctly".
