Guy tries to 'mansplain' a woman about her swing — he had no idea she was a pro golfer

As soon as a woman steps into the sports world, her stature in the sphere is generalized to a beginner, no matter her expertise. Then follows loads and loads of “mansplaining”, a term used to refer to the condescending explanations from men that are unasked for. Be it the gym, a playground, or a golf driving range, in this case– there is no escaping it. A professional golfer and coach, Georgia Ball was practicing a swing change when a man turned up to offer her some unsolicited advice about her game. While the mansplaining incident was annoying enough, the pro athlete made the most out of it by posting the video on her popular TikTok handle, @georgiagolfcoach, attracting 1.1 million likes and hilarious comments from viewers. 

Minding her own business, Ball lands a beautiful shot hitting the ball in the air but is eventually interrupted by a man’s voice. She turns back to look and is met with what seems like a criticism. “Excuse me. What you’re doing there, you shouldn’t be doing that,” the man said, who is left out of the frame in the video. He continued with his advice, repeating that Ball should not be doing what she was doing and simply “follow through.” Ball patiently listened to him with the golf stick up on her shoulder. “You’re doing too slow on the way up and then back.” The golf coach, who has 411k followers on her page, was rather polite to take the effort to explain herself. “I’m going through a swing change at the minute. So everything I’m doing…” she said before getting interrupted once again by the man.

Adamant in his ways, he kept bombarding the athlete with his redundant advice only to boast later, “You know, I’ve been playing golf for 20 years.” Ball, still keeping her cool, waits for him to finish and briefly stares at the camera to express her shock. At this point, anyone would have killed their patience to give the man a reality check but Ball managed to “follow through.” He persuaded her to “just” hit one. Complying, Ball took her stance and hit another perfectly good shot but sadly the credit was taken by the mansplainer. “See how much better that was?” he quipped. In an overlay text, she mentioned that the shot was in fact same as the previous one, however, the man with 20 years of expertise was barely able to tell the difference.

Simultaneously, Ball could not hold back her laugh and attempted to explain what was actually going on. She said that because she is hoping to get a swing change, she is meant to do it slower than usual. “I don’t know whether you see or watch golf,” she belts out adding the best players in the world also do the same. However, she was robbed of her chance of "woman-splaining" because of the delusional man that he was. He claimed to have understood her point but reiterated his 20-year experience in golf. She captioned the post, “Can you believe he said this?”  

Meanwhile, the comments section blew up with rib-tickling reactions from her followers. “Normalize chasing people on all fours,” joked an internet user (@missabbyraeee) while another (@thestephjames) said, “My hope is that he comes across this video and it keeps him up at night.” “The way he kept cutting you off has me raging,” wrote an angry viewer (@afrika_hopkins). Most of the people sided with Ball while a few others criticized her for being overly polite.
