Husband who went out to get lunch nervously returns home with a gift — but the wife wasn't pleased

A person’s true nature is bound to spill through while doing the most mundane things. When a husband was sent out to get lunch, the wife was not shocked when he returned with more than a bag of food. TikTok user Julianne Marie (@juliannmbrown) posted a video of her best friend, Abby’s husband, David Biondi, returning home after running an errand. As he faced his wife, Biondi hesitantly admitted to something he had done– bought a new pet. A rather atypical one. Biondi came home with a handy cardboard box in which lay hidden an adorable little duckling.

“What did you do?” Abby asked in the video, which has since gone viral with 6.7 million views. She secretly filmed the sweet moment as evidence of her husband’s unconditional love for animals. Biondi tried to justify his act with a brief explanation about what went down at the feed store. “I got a baby duck,” Biondi admitted with a nervous laugh. “I went in to buy feed and it was the only baby in the entire thing and it was so sad being alone that I got it.” He then suggested putting the new duckling with their other duck on the farm.

When asked to present it out of the box, Biondi warned that the duck was “very cute.” Meanwhile, their kid advised that the duckling needed “another friend” since it would be lonely alone. “Well, that’s why I’m gonna put it out with our ducks. It was the only one,” the husband clarified once again. As he cooped his hands around the duck, their pet dog gently licked the duckling’s tiny webbed feet. Biondi's loving stare at the duck proved his compassion for animals. “POV: You send your husband out for lunch.” The family named the duckling Kevin, after a character from Home Alone.

Biondi talked to PEOPLE about his little detour to the feed store. “I was in the feed store. We have chickens and ducks outside, and I was just going to get them some food,” he said. “I was purposely avoiding going near the chicks and ducks, because I know when I start looking, I’m going to come home with them.” While shopping, he noticed a couple standing near the duck basket. One of them pointed out the single duckling left all alone. That is when Biondi could not resist walking over to investigate. “At that point, I basically walked over and said, ‘All right, that’s one duck. It can’t be alone,” Biondi recalled. He had gone against his plans not to adopt new pets this year.

Knowing his nature, his wife, even though not expecting him to bring over a duckling, was not at all surprised. “That’s just David’s nature,” she said, noting his “warm and empathetic” energy. “And a great sense of humor, as you can tell. That’s one thing I love about him and drew me to him.” Abby also revealed the motive behind the viral video that has won millions of hearts on the internet. “The whole video itself really was me proving a point to my friends about like, this is how this keeps happening,” she said.

While it was intended to be a lighthearted jab at her husband’s pet-loving nature, Abby did not anticipate the snippet storming the internet like it did. Her friend, Julianne, shared it on TikTok to let other friends in their circle in on the joke, but fate had other plans. In a follow-up post, the TikTok user shared another snippet where Biondi brought home six chicks to accompany their duckling. Unfortunately, the birds did not like each other.
