Jelly Roll visits Walmart to buy his new album — worker had no idea he was selling his own music to him

Country music has enjoyed a surge in popularity in the commercial industry in recent years. Jason Bradley DeFord, aka Jelly Roll, is one of the few names that have pushed the boundaries of the music genre and captivated hearts with his unique voice. From spending time in jail to making chart-topping hits, the country icon has come a long way. Yet, DeFord decided to laugh it off after a Walmart worker did not recognize him when he pulled up to the retailer to buy a copy of his latest album, Beautifully Broken. Jelly Roll (@officialjellyroll) took to TikTok and shared the viral encounter hinting at his fairly overlooked stardom in public places.

Despite his great success in the country music scene, the 40-year-old singer, hailing from Nashville, freely entered a Walmart store. He did not reveal the location of the store though. “You know the coolest thing about Walmart? They are all set up the same. They’re like Waffle House. I know where everything’s at,” DeFord said entering the store. Without much ado, he went straight up to the CD section to check if his new album was available. The hitmaker said it was his tradition to visit Walmart to see if his albums were on the shelf and recalled a hilarious instance from the past.

“Last time I came into a Walmart, they didn’t know me. I asked the guy if they had a Jelly Roll CD, and he was like, ‘Who?’” the Save Me singer narrated. Finding the CD section, the musician asked a Walmart worker to open up the locked shelves to look for his album. “Oh, they’re locked up. Can you let me in here, sir?” he told the worker. DeFord bombarded the guy with random questions about music before finally asking him about country music. “I don’t listen to it so much,” the worker hesitantly replied. The country star, seemingly a little disappointed, probed if there were more stocks of his album.

“You have any more of these? They are called Beautifully Broken. I think the artist is Jelly Roll,” he quipped occasionally peeping into the camera with a cheeky smile. “It’s the best day ever,” DeFord noted while the Walmart guy could be seen checking for the albums. Interestingly, Jelly Roll ended up buying the very last stock of his album in the store. “Officially sold out!” the text announced while the Wild Ones singer shook hands with the worker. Thanking the worker, identified as Orlando, the singer walked out of the store only to find some fans clicking his pictures. “Good to see you. I found my CD,” he shared waving at them. He was somehow impressed by the insane encounter as he captioned the post, “This went so much better than last time.”
Jelly Roll was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards and CMA’s New Artist of the Year in 2023, per Biography. For those unversed, these are notable achievements in the music sphere. However, it seems people have yet to acquaint themselves with his finesse in country music. Meanwhile, his fans were amused by the unusual encounter and flooded the post with comments. One person (@pattym1978) wrote, “How on God’s green earth, one does not know who Jelly Roll is? Seriously!” while another (@tiffanytandberg) said, “My hometown Walmart! I would have simply passed away.” A third fan (@jqueenbeazzy) thoughtfully pointed out, “I love that he doesn’t know you. Not because I don’t love you, but because you were so humble about it. Just always nice.”
