Chivalry isn't dead and while a lot of men tend to make women uncomfortable, those raised right grow up to be gentlemen. These values are best inculcated in boys from a young age and can go a long way in ensuring that they stand out. One TikTok video, for instance, featured a little boy requesting permission from a girl's parent to accompany her to homecoming. This gesture is unexpected from someone so young, yet it conveys an important lesson. The video has also gained millions of views on social media.

The viral video begins with the child approaching the girl's father, who was seated in the bleachers, enjoying a baseball game. The little guy said, “My name is Easton. Can I take your daughter to homecoming?” The little boy's bravery impressed the girl's father, who smiled as he asked for his name and repeated it to be sure he understood. He then permitted Easton to go with his daughter to homecoming. The following scene captured the sweet moment when the kid approached the girl with a bunch of red, black, and green balloons and a red gift bag. He also held a sign that read, “2, 4, 6, 8… will you be my HOCO (homecoming) date?”

The girl said yes and both of them shared a joyful smile as the video ended. The comment section of the video was filled with viewers in awe, many of whom praised Easton's self-confidence. One TikTok user, @johnnygavaldon72, commented, “Little man has respect...parents taught him good! my hats off to you little man and your parents.” While @_reneel89, wrote, “Omg that was so precious. he is going to be a great man. You're doing a great job, Mom and Dad.” User @cindyw91 added, “Awww I'm not sure what kind of tradition this is but it is sooo sweet. Lovely kids, and great parents!”

Another TikTok user, who goes by the username @amylynn_210, shared a similar story and wrote, “This is sweet!!! Just had my daughter's date ask me if he could take her before he asked her. GOOD JOB TO MAMA/DADDIES RAISING MEN.” Not only is basic decency a virtue, but it also serves as a basis for meaningful interactions if taught early. Requesting permission and consent is simply courteous behavior that ensures that a person is considerate about the feelings of others, regardless of gender. In a society that is rapidly changing due to evolving social standards, timeless values like these provide a sense of security.

This is important at a time when it appears that basic interpersonal skills, which ought to be ingrained in all generations, are disappearing. Calling the fundamental values outdated just serves to reinforce the idea among younger people that decency isn't relevant. Although everyone may have different opinions on chivalry, Easton’s homecoming invitation was truly heartwarming.
