Man gives up his first class seat to fulfill the dream of an elderly woman he just met
Although a large number of people look for discounts and affordable options while booking flights for their trips, flying first class remains an aspiration for many. Since few can afford this exclusive experience, it's also seen as a sign of upward social mobility. That's where passengers like Jack Littlejohn come in to make dreams come true by giving up their first class flight seats to someone they have only known for a few hours.
According to the New Zealand Herald, the young man was flying with Virgin Atlantic and had booked seats in the upper-class cabin of the flight for himself and his family. But then Littlejohn met an 88-year-old lady named Violet in the airport's waiting room and they struck up a friendship. But as soon as they both boarded the flight, Littlejohn decided to head back to the economy class and swapped his seats with his new friend.
A flight attendant with the airline, Leah Amy, shared the whole story on her Facebook page. "Of the hundreds of flights I’ve operated, I’ve had the pleasure of looking after footballers, supermodels and some Hollywood movie stars but let me tell you about my two favorite passengers ever!" the post read, alongside three pictures of Violet by herself, with Jack and flight attendants. "Jack and his family purchased seats in our upper-class cabin for a flight home from New York but when he got onboard, Jack went and found Violet in economy and swapped seats with her."
Amy added in her caption that Littlejohn decided to find his seat directly next to the economy class toilets and never complained or asked for anything the rest of the flight. "There was no fuss, no attention. He literally did it out of the kindness of his own heart, no one asked him to," the post continued. "Violet is 88 years old and has been a nurse in both the UK and America. She travels to New York to see her daughter but hasn’t been able to for a while because of a knee replacement. Her dream has always been to sit at the front and Jack made that come true."
Amy recalled that Violet was over the moon when she got tucked into her bed by Amy after having her supper. "She said her daughter wouldn’t believe her and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it but she didn’t have a phone or an email address. These photos are getting sent in the post tomorrow, can you even cope?" Amy's post concluded. The Facebook community reposted the story over 5,500 times and left tons of comments to appreciate Littlejohn for his selfless actions.
Daniel Ashfield commented, "So Jack didn't know Violet but gave up his seat? That right there says the kind of guy he is! Girls get your bids in, he sounds like marriage material!" Leanne Robinson commented, "This is the best thing ever. What a story and what a guy! Wow, thank you for sharing. I have taken something from this and I’m sure lots of other people will." Vicki Crescini cheered, "Oh my god. I'm in tears reading this, blaming the fact that it's landing day!! Only good things will happen to this young man Karma is king!" Jo Lambe added, " I hope Virgin Atlantic reaches out to Jack and gives him a little something back for just being a genuine superstar. If only there were more people making people’s lives like this every day."
