Grand declarations of love, hot air balloons, or sweeping musical proposals, kissing under the Eiffel Tower are a common and well-appreciated affair, but beyond that, sometimes, romance looks a lot like someone quietly kneeling by your side and offering snacks when you’re doubled over in pain. And the internet can’t get enough of it. A viral TikTok shared by engaged couple Luke and Alexis, who go by @lukeandalexis1 on the platform, is drawing widespread attention not for its big display but for its raw simplicity.

In the short but touching clip that lasts around one minute, Alexis is seen lying down on the couch, clearly battling extreme period cramps. As she curls up in discomfort, Luke is right there beside her and immediately gets up to comfort her as soon as he realizes she is going through extreme pain. He then goes on to ask, “Do you need snacks or anything?”. He even touches her stomach in a desperate attempt to help her feel better, and all this very seriously, while the concern in his voice is audible.

The comment section quickly filled with emotional reactions. Many viewers praised Luke’s empathy and attentiveness, with one user @Bigdawg2 writing, “My situationship of two weeks woke up at 5 am and started rubbing my stomach and lower back and looking everywhere in his house for medicine." In today's fast-paced world, relationships are often measured by the materialistic grand gestures and photo-worthy moments, but this video instead in its simplicity, offered a more grounded, emotional truth that love is often built in the soft, unfiltered scenes of daily life. It’s in being there during the less-than-glamorous times, when someone’s in pain, vulnerable, or just needs a snack and a little kindness.

Several others also resonated with her. A lot of the users praised him for being kind and gentle. @bellaverhaalen, chuckling, wrote, "This is so adorable but it cracks me up the tone in which he asks you if you want a snack like a puppy or little kid, but he’s the sweetest!" while several others validated why he is the fiancé. @WaytoHaq wrote, "Need this type of husband," while @negin mentioned, "That is why we call him fiancé." @Malak very adorably wished for a love like that, writing, "May this love find me."

A survey from 2023 found that 84 percent of female respondents in the United States reported having moderate to severe pain from their menstrual cramps. The medical term for period pain is dysmenorrhea, and although it is widespread, discussion is lacking on the topic. A report by Women's Health also said, "The survey found that almost all of the women and girls consulted, who were between 16 and 40, said they have experienced period pain (96%), with 59% saying their pain was severe. The findings chime with results from the Women’s Health Strategy for England, which found that women and girls are frequently ignored when they seek medical help for period problems or are told that such issues are ‘normal’ or they will ‘grow out of them.’" Therefore, for women who deal with painful periods, having someone simply acknowledge their discomfort without minimising it can be a deeply validating experience.
