Mom accidentally invites 487 guests to her child's birthday party — now there's no turning back

As one becomes a parent, the duty of organizing birthday parties for their children follows. It is a significant celebration in every child’s formative years. Taking a note of it, a mother was creating e-invites for her child’s first birthday party when she invited about 500 people to the birthday party. Emily King, who goes by @twodachshundkings on TikTok, conveyed her minor error that almost got her to host 487 guests at her home. In a video, the mother detailed how the blunder took shape and painted the happy preparations into an embarrassment.

“I just made an Evite for my daughter’s first birthday party,” King, who is a teacher, began. With privacy on the brink of collapse on every platform on the internet, the E-vite asked her if she wanted to “import contacts” from her phone. King, in her naive self, agreed to do so, hoping she would select the relevant ones and discard the rest. What happened next could be every host’s nightmare. “No, it imported all 487 of my contacts and invited them to this birthday party,” the red-faced mom disclosed.

Right from her boss and “all” of her co-workers, to every other person whose contact had been stored on her phone, received the invitation. That was not even the worst part. “It sent an invitation based on how they are stored in my phone,” Kind added. Asking her viewers to reflect on a similar situation, she hinted at the absurd names we often save our contacts with, just to briefly recollect where or when they’d met, or for what reason. “Derek with an eye-roll emoji" received an invitation, and "Jess hit her car in the parking lot" got it too. She revealed the few quirky names of the contacts who received the E-vites.

“Anyways, I have to quit or get a new identity,” King concluded. The gaffe may have placed her in an awkward position with her contacts, but the internet seemed to love it. The TikTok post received 2.3 million hearts and 24,700 hilarious comments discussing her birthday blunder. @l.stuart suggested, “Make a cancellation evite card and send it to them all,” While @shaynanagainz admitted, “I have someone saved as ‘restraining order.’” “Evite needs to sponsor this party,” @xkitkatxk chimed in. Meanwhile, @momoof2teen informed, “Also, on Evite, everyone can see who else you invited! I would be going through the list, non-stop laughing!”

In an interview with TODAY, King noted the situation was both “terrifying” and “hilarious.” Turns out, it is going to be her daughter’s first birthday party in June. “I was really excited — because I am 20 weeks pregnant, I wanted the day to be all about my daughter.” Her party’s theme is Lord of the Rings, and she had originally planned to email 50 guests, expecting a turnout of 35. When she typed “Dad” in the Evite list, it showed he was already invited. That is when she decided to check the guest list, and it dawned on her. "All the blood drained from my body,” she recalled. Interestingly, Evite did send King and her husband a $250 DoorDash gift card to pay for the bigger party.
