Mom confronts her 7-week-old about her 'behavior' in playful morning chat: 'I want to cry...'

A first-time mom took the high road and had an open and honest conversation with her seven-week-old baby about her behavior the other day. Emily, who goes by @living.withem on TikTok, lay down with her baby and recalled events from their long drive, to and fro the great-grandparents’ house. The mom was surprised by her baby’s calmness throughout the day, which also involved a 4-hour travel and a quick stop, but as soon as they got home, the little one gave her parents a hard time. Emily decided to have the talk and negotiate a possible solution that would benefit “both parties.”

“Okay, girlfriend, we need to talk about your performance last night. Yesterday, you were an absolute angel,” Emily began in her viral clip with 162,000 views. She explained how the baby girl did not shed a tear traveling two hours one way to her great-grandparents’ house. Instead, the baby slept all day, calm and content, without throwing any tantrums. “Literally, all day, you slept on me. You slept on your great-grandma. You didn’t even cry in the car,” the first-time mom said. Noting how difficult it is to sit still in the car for hours, Emily acknowledged her daughter’s brave feat by comparing herself to her. “I want to cry in the car when I’m in the car for four hours.”

The baby did “great” and even allowed the parents to grab a quick snack before they reached home. “It was amazing. I’m so proud of you,” Emily continued in her friendly conversational voice. However, their joy was short-lived as the baby girl threw a massive tantrum as soon as they stepped into their home. She asked, “But how come when we walk in the door at 6:30 p.m., you're screaming?” The parents were not expecting their baby to be cranky at the early evening hour because she was not “overstimulated” and mostly slept through the day. “We were like, ‘She’s going to wake up and be like an angel. I’ll feed her and it will be great'."

Unfortunately, that was barely the case. The infant “screamed” in her mother’s ear for about half an hour. Emily managed to calm her down by breastfeeding her and then delaying bath time. As she talked, the baby whimpered and cooed beside her mom, hardly comprehending her words. The mom cheekily emphasized the necessity of a possible resolution that would “work for both parties.” The mom jokes, “It’s really challenging when mommy and daddy are so tired and you’re just screaming.” Emily was determined to figure out a fix to it and, like a professional, asked her daughter’s thoughts on this before concluding the clip with an adorable fist bump.
@living.withem I hope we can come up with a successful solution that benefits both parties 🤝🏼 #newmom #ftm #firsttimemom #newborn #newbaby #realisticmomlife #babygirl #newbornchats ♬ original sound - Emily | First Time Mom
The post received 17,000 hearts from strangers who were absolutely smitten with the sweet mother-daughter banter. One person (@raadiantaura_) said, “Baby girl definitely had a hidden agenda,” while another (@kayyymc3) mused, “She said, ‘None of that is any of her business.’” A few others highlighted the reason behind the random crying. “Purple crying. It’s a thing. Crying for no reason sometimes,” explained @justanotherfamilyman and @amandaclaudine2 wrote, “It’s called ‘the witching hour.’ All 3 of my kids went through it.” According to pediatrician Harvey Karp, MD, and author, the early evening hours are usually difficult for babies' mechanisms due to their immature nervous systems. Like every adult, these tiny humans also get “frazzled” by the end of the day, as per Parents.
