Becoming a mother is truly a life-altering experience. However, it can be especially challenging if you are the first mom in your friend group. Without your buddies to understand, support, and guide you through the exhaustion, emotions, and constant demands of early motherhood, navigating the role of a new parent can easily become overwhelming. One such instance was shared on TikTok by Becca (@thereal_becca), which resonates with viewers worldwide. The new mom with a six-week-old baby shares how one of her best friends—an experienced mother of two—has helped her get through some of the toughest days.

The video begins with Becca paying a heartfelt tribute to anyone who is the first parent in their friend group, saying they deserve a prize, a million hugs, and loads of encouraging words to handle the difficult days alone. She said, "I have a six-week-old baby and I could not do this without my friends telling me about their experiences with newborn babies." She went on to share that one of her best friends had two babies before anyone else in their close circle, and now she is their "spiritual and educational leader." Becca explained, "Whenever there's something going on with my baby, she is my first step."

Becca often turns to her best friend for advice even before reaching out to a pediatrician, and, more often than not, her friend’s answers are the same as those of a professional. However, it isn't advisable to self-treat yourself or your baby, although a little support from your girl pal can go a long way. The viral video prompted TikTok users to share their experience as new parents. One TikTok user, @katiejohnson1007, commented, “It’s incredibly lonely to be the first. And I am now trying so hard to make sure my other friends are not feeling the way I did.”

Another person, @fuzii123, wrote, “I was the first in my group. I lost all my friends. Now they are becoming moms and coming right back to me for advice and help.” Adding to the above comment, @maddycapo said, “2 boys, 3 and 1, and about to be 19 weeks with my third. Still, not a single friend from any of our major friend groups has kids yet. It’s the most isolating and lonely experience, and I’ve made it my mission to be there for them when it’s their turn because no one was there for me.” @jenakelsey also said, “Probably one of the loneliest experiences of my life was having kids before anyone I knew, and now that I have friends who check in, I don't know how to ask for help, lol.”

Raising a child is one of the most difficult and demanding tasks, although it can be extremely rewarding. Despite the sweet memories you would make with your little ones and their unforgettable little milestones, sleepless nights aren't uncommon, just as much as constant worry, emotional ups and downs, and the overwhelming pressure to do everything right. In such a case, the much-needed support from your loved ones naturally eases the emotional stress and reminds you that you're not alone in this journey.
