New mom calls cop at 3 AM with a bizarre request — the officer went above and beyond to help

At 3 AM, a frantic mother called the cops for help, and what happened next restores our faith in humanity. The officer, with empathy and dedication, did everything in his power to help the distressed woman in her time of need. As the story of his act of kindness made the rounds on the internet, it won everyone's hearts.

When Officer Corporal Hunter Willoughby picked up the call, he found out that it was a new mother on the other end, overwhelmed, exhausted, and panicking about being unable to feed her hungry newborn. She told the police that the stores nearby were closed and that her milk had dried. Officer Willoughby didn't want the baby to go hungry, and so he went to a closed Meijer grocery store at 3:18 AM. No one answered when he knocked on the door, so he started tapping on windows and flashing his flight. It worked; someone answered, and the entire incident was captured on the officer’s body cam. The Miami Township Police Department later shared the clip on their social media page, as reported by the Goalcast.

A woman had answered the door. Willoughby asked, "There is a mom. She said her milk dried up, and she couldn't find anywhere to buy formula. Is there anybody in here who can turn on a cash register… because I'll buy it for her and take it to her?" She answered, “I believe so.” The officer was soon confused by all the choices of formulas available, but finally picked one. The employee asked if he needed a bottle, and the officer grabbed that too. Willoughby later gushed, “Luckily, the employee was super friendly. She was just as willing as I was to try and figure out a solution.”

As reported by Fox19, he added, “I went and purchased the formula and was able to call her on my way and tell her I’d be there in a few minutes, and surprised her with the formula. She had the baby with her on the front step and was able to give her the formula. She offered to pay me, but I wouldn’t accept it. She was very, very appreciative.” Miami Township Police Chief Mike Mills revealed that Willoughby is known for his kind nature. He said, “He does a good job, and he does this kind of stuff all of the time.”
Mills added, “It just doesn’t hit the airwaves, it doesn’t hit social media, this is prototypical of him and all of the officers here in Miami Township. It makes me proud to be their chief.” He said it was a story worth telling and wasn’t surprised that the community came together in support. Officer Willoughby’s act of kindness didn’t just help one mother—the police department shared that thousands were moved by his gesture, with strangers sending in gift cards, baby formula, and offers to support other moms facing similar struggles.
